The valley is full of guests, the sky is full of clouds.

A bad combination on a summer vacation, one might think.

But the tourist information centers around Tegernsee have alternatives ready.

Tegernsee valley

- “The main thing is inside”: It has to pour out of the bucket that the tourist information (TI) in the Tegernsee valley hear this sentence from guests. Cold shower days, on the other hand, cannot deter many vacationers from outdoor activities, says Sabrina Egold from TI Bad Wiessee. “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing,” is usually the motto. Especially in times of the corona pandemic, when indoor capacities are even tighter than in a fully booked valley, hikes that can be done even when it rains are often the method of choice. There is no shortage of offers, emphasizes Egold. High-altitude trails, nature adventure trails or simple alpine pasture tours are easily feasible even in wet conditions. Safety has top priority. “If it's slippery, we don't send anyone up the Fockenstein,” says Egold.

But even guests who don't feel like having an umbrella and rain jacket don't have to stay in their hotel room with a book or board game.

The list of indoor activities that the TIs can offer holidaymakers is long.

Families recommend the Aquadome or the play arena, older couples the treatments in the iodine-sulfur bath or a wellness day in the lake sauna, explains Vicky Vidovic from TI Tegernsee.

From a cultural point of view, the Chagall exhibition in the Gulbransson Museum is currently the absolute tip, but a visit to the Carriage Museum in Rottach-Egern is always worthwhile.

The calendar of events, which has gradually been refilled with the relaxation of the Corona rules, includes time-bound delicacies such as guided tours.

Tourism experts would welcome an expansion of the offer

"Even if you can't compare this with what a metropolis like Munich has to offer, we are well positioned for rural areas," says Thomas Baumgartner, Marketing Manager at Tegernseer Tal Tourismus (TTT) GmbH.

Nevertheless, a further expansion of the bad weather offers would be welcome, especially for families.

The loss of the Wiesseer Badepark also hurts a bit.

If there is a longer period of bad weather, good tips for excursions are required.

Not only over to the Schliersee or the Leitzach valley, but also to Bad Tölz, Munich and even across the border to Salzburg or Tyrol.

“One hour's driving time is the pain threshold for most,” explains Egold.

And getting there should be straightforward, ideally by public transport.

Discounts with the Tegernsee Card

While guest card holders can travel by bus for free in the district, it is worth taking a look at the corresponding discount booklet for users of the Tegernsee Card.

Here, with Tratzberg Castle, a partner in Tyrol is listed.

In addition, the Upper Bavaria bus in Bad Wiessee grants a 50 percent discount on a number of day trips.

The weekend tours that even lead to Merano and Lake Garda are excluded.

But the weather must have been bad for a long time, so that desperate vacationers have to flee over the Brenner Pass.
