Let the Animals Live reports an increase in the number of dog abandonments and returns • The association's CEO: "This situation, of zero adoptions in recent weeks, is something that has not happened in all of the association's 35 years."

The fourth wave of the corona that is in full swing, along with the month of August that always brings with it a wave of abandonment on the part of dog owners going on vacation, has created an almost impossible situation for the Let the Animals Live Association.

The association reports a zero amount of adoptions over the past month, along with an increasing amount of abandonment and dog returns.

In two of the cases, dog owners abandoned their dogs at the entrance to the association's kennel in the village of Ruth and left the place.

A lawsuit is currently being filed against the two, as abandoning a dog is prohibited under the Animal Cruelty Act.

The association seeks to prosecute dog owners who choose to abandon their dog without finding him a suitable solution that will allow him to continue living with dignity.

The association, which advocates a NO KILL policy, gives all of these dogs a place in the kennel, but some may not find a home even for many years.

"This situation, of zero adoptions in recent weeks, is something that has not happened in all 35 years of the association. We have not seen such a situation, neither in the wars nor in the previous waves of the Corona. "There are mainly sad sights of dogs that are difficult in the heat, even though we try to relieve them in every way, and that there is no light for them at the end of the tunnel," says Yael Arkin, the association's director.

"With us, the closure never ends. As an organization that has made it a point not to kill any animals, dogs have been waiting for us for many years, but we never give up and are sure that there is more room in people's hearts to come to us, save them and give them life! "In a kennel with more than 150 dogs and make no mistake for a moment, a cage is not a home for anyone. Not even for those who have been here for years. Everyone is begging to get out of the bars. Says Noya Nardimon, responsible for the association's adoptions.

Oza, came to her dogs at the age of six months.

Already 8 years old !,

"Most efforts choose puppies or dogs up to the age of 3-4, while most of our dogs are over the age of 8 who just go through a nightmare on these hot days. There is nothing more painful than seeing a dog who has spent his entire life in a dead kennel between bars. There is no greater rescue than getting free "An older, calm and educated dog, who is just waiting for you to stop by his cage and give him a few more happy years," she adds.

At the same time, the association continues with assistance, rescue and rescue activities, which are brought to the association's clinics or dogs, where they are waiting for a new home.

During the past week, the association operated in the areas of the large fire in the Jerusalem mountains and even rescued a number of cats trapped in the area hit by the fire.

Every day, the association handles many calls from all over the country to treat dogs that have been injured, abandoned or rescued from abuse in various parts of the country.

"International Dog Day is a good time to remind the public that a dog is not an object. Dogs are living, sensitive creatures, and it is forbidden to harm them just as it is forbidden to harm humans. It is important to remember that a dog is not allowed outside outdoors without basic living conditions; "Water and food are available, it is forbidden to abandon dogs without finding a suitable solution for them, and of course they must not be physically harmed in any way. It sounds absurd to say that, but the difficult cases we encounter prove that the public does not always remember," says Yael Arkin, CEO. Lith Association.

In light of the sad data on the state of adoption, the association is launching a network campaign entitled: "Adopt a dog - save a life."

The campaign includes a short video showing women and men who have chosen to adopt a dog or bitch and define it as the best decision they have made in their lives.

All this, in order to evoke public sympathy and call on everyone to come and adopt a new friend for life.
