At the beginning of March 2020, the first patient diagnosed with corona entered the hospital gates.
Today, a year and a half later, we are far from the summary stage, but the period of time that has passed brings with it quite a few insights and the main one, for me, is modesty.
Twice we already thought we had won - and we were wrong, so the thinking needs to change: it's a marathon, not a short run.
The corona plague is not a medical event but a security event, affecting every aspect of our family, social, economic and of course medical and scientific lives.
Since the establishment of the State of Israel there has not been such a significant event that has affected us as a people like the Corona.
The time period and the result of close to 7,000 deaths and one million verified speak for themselves, even if some of them did not really get rid of Corona.
In this event we internalize things we took for granted as a society.
On the one hand, we realized the importance of the family unit, the mutual guarantee, the longing for leadership, and on the other hand, the rifts between us were exposed and it is very noticeable that we are a violent society and impatient and intolerant.
In my opinion, this event is the Israeli health system, with all its components and its management backbone, they are the ones who joined forces with our superiors to build a "wall". I appreciate that most citizens of the country , With all the differences between us, will agree to this statement.
Unfortunately, and with great heartbreak, there is still no internalization of decision-makers who need to build and promote the health care system.
Health is one of the basic values of humanity and certainly in the existence of Israeli society.
After all the events we have been through we are still treated and my fellow executives as "thieves", and instead of allocating resources to us trying through the Arrangements Act to impose punishments and restrictions in a violent way.
My friends and I are employees of the health system, and certainly the caregivers among us, we did not go to study a profession but in my opinion we chose a way of life. I made my personal decision to become a doctor at a very young age. I did a long and special route and did not expect to reach a management position, but what passes as the second thread is the endless commitment to patients. It is very frustrating to hear this morning and evening the patients' complaints, which are directed at us, those at the front, and to know that many of them are caused by external parties with authority - but with zero responsibility - who decide without blinking at the capabilities of the health system. I have heard the desperate cry of public hospital managers, which reflects the depth of the fracture of the entire health care system, if they as physicians have reached a point where they threaten to deviate from the commitment to patients.
Out of this commitment he put on the armor (which does not protect the soul) and went to war. We will go to war on the front against the corona, promote medicine, push the envelope and conquer new targets. At the same time, we will make sure that the armor on our backs is also durable, and we will fight for the citizens of the State of Israel for their basic right to receive quality medicine in parallel with our right to security. It is important to us that when we look back, we also see the citizens of the State of Israel understand, be present and support.
