2021-08-26T09:16:08.324Z

According to a survey by the CSA institute for CNEWS, 66% of 18-24 year olds in France are in favor of the repatriation of Afghan refugees in France.

54% of French people say they are in favor of welcoming Afghan refugees in France, according to a CSA poll published for Cnews this Thursday, August 26.

Since the capture of Kabul on August 15 by the Taliban, Paris has already exfiltrated 2,000 people, including French nationals and other nationalities, as well as Afghans threatened by the Taliban.

"

There are real political divisions within the French population on the reception of Afghan refugees

," said Julie Gaillot of the CSA research institute in the morning of the continuous news channel.

The controversy swells around the reception of Afghans and the security risk they could represent.

Recently, five Afghans, suspected of having links with the Taliban but hosted on French soil, were placed under surveillance.

One of them was arrested, then sentenced to 10 months suspended prison sentence.

On Monday August 16, a speech by the President of the Republic on the situation in Afghanistan also provoked an outcry on the left, after his remarks on the need to protect oneself against the potential danger of "

significant irregular migratory flows."

Unsurprisingly, the survey results change depending on political orientations.

76% of left supporters are in favor of this reception.

Among EELV respondents, the proportion climbs to 83%.

According to Julie Gaillot, "

the France of the left is very favorable to the reception, facing a France of the right quite clearly opposed, at 71%

".

Specifically, only 42% of the Republicans do not oppose it.

On the far right, the opposition is fierce among supporters of the RN, with a figure reaching 91% against.

On the side of LREM, a large majority, 67%, gave a positive response to the reception of Afghans in France.

More favorable young French people

Of the 1,000 people surveyed by the CSA institute for this survey, the figures show the greater acceptance of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 in welcoming Afghans.

The result is 66%.

The oldest are more reluctant: between 47 and 48% only among 35-64 year olds.

Finally, 59% of the wealthiest social categories (CSP +) are in favor of reception, against 46% for the lower classes.
