Permitted for publication: Police yesterday (Wednesday) arrested two suspects in the triple murder of members of the Jerushi family near Eilabun in June, which shocked the Arab sector and the entire country.
The suspects arrested are 23-year-old Alaa Jerushi and 26-year-old Paddy Jerushi, both residents of Ramla.
The suspects were brought before a judge in the Magistrate's Court in Rishon LeZion yesterday and their detention was extended by 12 days for further investigation.
Yosef Jerushi, 58, his wife Noel, 46, and his daughter Ryan, 16, were shot dead on Saturday, June 26, 2001, while traveling in the family car on Road 806 near the Eilabun junction in the Galilee.
MDA medics and paramedics who arrived at the scene determined that they died on the spot. Another daughter (12), who was in the vehicle, was evacuated in fair condition to Poria Hospital in Tiberias.
A preliminary investigation revealed at the time that the victims were residents of Ramla who moved to the village of Deir Hanna about a month ago.
The investigation focused on the assessment that it was revenge for the murder of a member of the Jerushi clan in Ramla, about a month before the incident, and indeed - the detainees are from the Jerushi clan.
This is a conflict within the clan itself, which consists of several factions.
In response to the shooting, the national committee of heads of the Arab authorities in Israel said: "Again lawlessness is rampant, and once again weapons in the hands of criminals cost lives. The new government must give justice and stop the madness immediately. Our lives will no longer be no man's land. Instead, they call for immediate action. "
