, one of the accused of having murdered little Santino after raping María (44), his mother, in the Santa Cruz town of Puerto Deseado, pleaded guilty to the fact when he spoke on the first day of the trial that takes place this week in Río Gallegos.
The other defendant,
Omar Alvarado (33)
, committed suicide in a Caleta Olivia prison.
He was found hanged in his trap during a search that was carried out in those days (March 2020) due to the Covid pandemic.
Now, Machado is being tried, who was a minor when the act was committed.
The conviction of the accused shortened the terms of the process and this Friday the sentence of the judges of the Criminal Chamber Mario Albarrán, Jorge Alonso and Juan Pablo Olivera will be known.

The trial was carried out virtually and María, the mother of the murdered baby, and Celso Subelza, her husband, from Rosario de la Frontera, the town of Salta where they reside, also participated.
It all happened on February 19, 2020 on a beach surrounded by cliffs a few kilometers from the downtown area of Puerto Deseado, called “Cueva de los Leones”.
Both Machado and Alvarado were detained within days after a swift investigation carried out by Judge Oldemar Villa.
María and her little son Santino were walking around the place when they were surprised by Machado and Alvarado.
Both raped María, taking refuge on a cliff and taking advantage of the fact that the tide was in the downspout.

Later they
beat her and believed her dead.
They withdrew from the site, taking Santino with them.
And how the baby had witnessed everything, they did not want him to expose them.
Then they beat him with stones to death.
Then they left him on the shore, believing that when the tide rose he would take the body away.
But it was not like that.
María managed to recover and asked for help at a racetrack near where she had been raped.
She was taken to the hospital, while the police found Santino's body dead in the area of the caves.
The woman was admitted to the local hospital for several days.
The Puerto Deseado community reacted quickly, demanding justice for the incident.
Several mobilizations were carried out.
In the last one, and through a megaphone, it was said constantly:
"Puerto Deseado apologizes to you, María for returning your son to you in a drawer."
A whole town came out to ask for justice in the streets.
They asked the woman for forgiveness.

María and Santino had traveled to that town on the Santa Cruz coast to visit another son of the woman who lives there and who has a carpentry shop.
The tragic afternoon, the son left them in the area of the caves to go for a walk on the beach.
It was when Machado and Alvarado surprised them and tried to steal a cell phone in the first instance.
But later they forced both of them to go towards the cliffs.
There began the events that ended tragically.
