The Ministry of Defense and the Israel Shipyards Company signed an agreement yesterday (Wednesday) for the planning of the next assault ship of the Sea Arm, worth about NIS 50 million.

As part of the agreement, which was formed in collaboration with the Sea Arm, Israel Shipyards will carry out detailed engineering design for the next assault ship, the Reshef model, which is expected to be 78 meters long, weighing up to a thousand tons and reaching a speed of 30 knots.

The new ship is expected to replace the old Nirit ships that were absorbed into the Navy about 40 years ago.

The engineering work is expected to last about two years, during which time a decision will be made on the ship manufacturing process.

The planning agreement joins the purchase of four Sheldag Mark 5 ships for the naval security fleet, which was announced by the Ministry of Defense last month, in the amount of NIS 100 million.

The entire defense system will continue to focus on strengthening Israeli industry as part of the development of the overall resilience of the State of Israel and our unique DNA as a country that produces security."

Vice President and Head of Procurement, Avi Dadon: "After two decades, the Ministry of Defense is returning to Israel a significant tier of the naval force building.

"The two agreements we signed within a month, for the planning of the future assault ship and for the production of the corps' next cruise ships, will strengthen the IDF, strengthen employment in the north and contribute significantly to defense exports."

The CEO of Israel Shipyards, Eitan Zucker: "We are proud to take a significant part in building Israel's future naval force, to design and build for the Ministry of Defense and the Navy the new, most advanced missile ships in the world that are precisely tailored to Israel's security strategy.

"The planning and construction of the Navy's new missile ship has additional national significance, including the creation of new jobs in the north, the opening of export markets and the expansion of employment through collaborations with dozens of subcontractors and the best defense industries in Israel."
