Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed today with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council the latest developments in Afghanistan.

"We will continue to discuss the events in Afghanistan, we will continue consultations with our partners on them, we will exchange information with them and we will talk about all issues related to this situation, including work in the diplomatic, military and humanitarian fields," TASS news agency quoted Putin as saying during the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov and Director of Foreign Intelligence Sergey Naryshkin.

On the 24th of this month, Putin confirmed that his country does not intend to interfere in Afghanistan's internal affairs, stressing at the same time that the escalation of the conflict in it and its spread outside its borders constitutes a threat to Russia's security.
