The summer of 2021 in this country was mainly characterized by changeable and cool weather - not good conditions for a relaxing break in the sun - especially since most Germans spent their holidays in their own country, as a current evaluation of the online booking portal for holiday homes, HomeToGo, revealed.
Autumn could come just in time to catch the last rays of sunshine in the rest of Europe.

The corona pandemic and constantly changing regulations regarding travel have made vacation planning extremely difficult this year. No wonder that most Germans spent their vacation in their homeland this year - and nothing will change in autumn for the time being. Current searches on HomeToGo show that
54.75 percent of users are interested in a vacation in Germany
. The North and Baltic Seas are particularly popular as destinations. Far behind is
Denmark
, where 11.76 percent of users are looking for a holiday home. The third most popular is
Spain
with a share of 6.38 percent of searches. Compared to the previous year, it has generally been shown that the interest in holidays in typical summer travel destinations such as
Italy
(+42.86 percent) and
Greece
(+76.42 percent) rose again somewhat.

Where did the Germans end up in the summer of 2021?
The evaluation shows that Germany was also popular as a holiday destination in the summer months this year.
46.09 percent of users looked for holiday homes in Germany.
That is a decrease of 8 percent compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, Croatia was able to convince more holidaymakers in the summer - 15.33 percent (and thus around 40 percent more than in the previous year) were enthusiastic about the country on the Adriatic.
Italy, with a share of 13.04 percent, also received more attention than in the previous year in 2021 - an increase of 75.26 percent.
