Two days after the end of the airlift from Afghanistan to France, ten days after his first speech on the subject, Emmanuel Macron will be the guest, Sunday evening, of the TF1 newspaper.
It is not from the Parisian studios of the channel that the President of the Republic will speak, but from Iraq, where he is participating in a regional summit.
The head of state will discuss "the situation in Afghanistan and in the region", announces the channel.
Earlier in the day, on Saturday, Emmanuel Macron called for “not to lower our guard” against the jihadists of the Islamic State group.
"We all know that we must not let our guard down, because Daesh (Arabic acronym for IS) remains a threat and I know that the fight against these terrorist groups is a priority for your government", declared the French president , following a meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Moustafa al-Kazimi, in Baghdad.
3,000 people evacuated by France
In Afghanistan, evacuations are drawing to a close, a few days before the August 31 deadline set for the withdrawal of American soldiers from Afghanistan. Launched since the Taliban took power, they have made it possible to force thousands of people out of the country, foreign nationals as well as Afghans. France put an end to its airlift on Friday evening, which evacuated "nearly 3,000 people, including more than 2,600 Afghans" according to the Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly.
The situation remains tense in Afghanistan, a few days after the airport attack which killed around 100 people, including 13 American soldiers. As promised by Joe Biden, the United States began a response on Saturday by targeting a target of the Islamic State group in Afghanistan using a drone. "According to the first indications, we killed the target," the US authorities said in a statement.
