Shortly before the end of the US mission in Afghanistan, the situation remains tense.

US President Joe Biden has warned of another attack in Kabul.

"Our commanders have informed me that an attack is very likely in the next 24 to 36 hours," said the US President.

He had instructed the commanders to take all possible measures to protect the US troops.

Last Thursday there was a devastating suicide attack on Kabul airport.

Dozens of people were killed, including 13 US soldiers.

The attack was the most loss-making attack on the US Army in the Hindu Kush in ten years.

As usual in the USA, the US Department of Defense published details of the soldiers killed.

Accordingly, they were between 20 and 31 years old, eleven were therefore marine infantry, the other two members of the army and the navy.

Two women soldiers were among the fatalities.

In response to the attack, the US military attacked the IS-K subsidiary in eastern Afghanistan that night.

The Pentagon then announced that two "high-ranking" members of the extremist group had been killed in an attack in eastern Afghanistan.

The Taliban confirmed two fatalities but condemned the air strike.

"The Americans should have informed us before the air strike," said a spokesman.

Two women and a child were injured.

Further attacks on IS offshoots

Meanwhile, Biden announced further strikes against the IS offshoot.

"This attack wasn't the last," said Biden.

"We will continue to hunt down, capture and pay for anyone involved in this vicious attack." Any attack on US interests or the military would be retaliated, he warned.

"There will never be any doubt about that."

The US wants to withdraw all soldiers from Afghanistan by Tuesday.

The withdrawal of troops has now begun, said Defense Department spokesman John Kirby.

Kabul Airport is still completely under control.

The US military wants to bring vulnerable people to safety "until the last moment."

On Saturday, around 1,400 people were waiting to leave Kabul on board a transport plane after their inspection by the US Army, General Hank Taylor said at a press conference.

A total of 117,000 people have been brought out of the country via the airlift since mid-August.
