The Paraguayan Ministry of Health reported that a 40-year-old man became the first fatal victim of the delta variant in Paraguay.
The director of Health Surveillance, Guillermo Sequera, said that the delta variant "is spreading in the country," with new cases in different regions.
According to the official report, 49 new cases of delta were detected, and in total, there are 83 cases of this variant confirmed in Paraguay.

Official data reveal that of the 49 cases, five have a history of traveling abroad.
The deceased person is from the city of Hernandarias, in the Alto Paraná department, on the border with Brazil, according to the Health authorities, who added that the victim had no underlying diseases, but had not been vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health added that, except for the deceased, all those who contracted the delta variant are in good condition.
Based on the result of an official report in July, almost 93% of covid-19 cases corresponded to the Gamma P1 variant and 1.5% corresponded to the Delta variant.
