Hail, storms and large amounts of water have severely affected the fruit trees in the region this year.

No wonder then that the expectations of the owners of fruit presses for the pressing season that is now starting are quite low.

District

- In Weilheim, the fruit press of the fruit and garden association starts work this Saturday. However, the association is still reluctant to make predictions about the expected harvest volume. The situation is different with Richard Socher from Peiting, who has a clear picture in mind when looking at this year's fruit plantation. Although this appears consistently cloudy, as he is assuming a significantly weaker harvest than in previous years due to the many storms in the past few months. "I think that almost 90 percent of the usual yield is hailed and rotten," he says.

Sabine Birk from Bernbeuren also has more pessimistic expectations for the upcoming season than in previous years.

“Last but not least, the high winds made the fruit very hard,” says the organizer of the fruit press in the Bernbeurer Auerberghalle.

So far, only one person has asked her for the pressing.

“We won't start before the beginning of September,” Birk continued.

Trees suffered from the storms

Roberta Leimbach's Steingaden fruit press, which has a supplier area from Reutte in Austria in Tyrol to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, is also not assuming an excessively high yield this year. In good years one could easily and happily produce around 100,000 liters. Weaker years, such as 2017 with 20,000 liters, would also occur again and again. This year, however, one would be very satisfied with less than this number of liters, says Leimbach.

In addition to the already difficult fruit location, other reasons can make pressing more difficult.

The Bauer fruit press family from Peißenberg had to grapple with technical problems in the past few days.

The old press machine went on strike, which was very problematic due to the fact that spare parts are no longer being produced for the good piece.

However, after the problem was quickly resolved on our own, nothing stands in the way of the press start next Monday.

Pressing is actually only worthwhile from 500 kilograms per day

In Hohenpeißenberg, too, significantly fewer fruits are expected than in previous years.

"When I think back to the outstanding 2018 harvest, I assume this year that there will be significantly fewer apples," said co-organizer Gerlinde Rasch.

Actually, pressing is only worthwhile from 500 kilograms per pressing day, which is why people have already started thinking about teaming up with the Bauers from Peißenberg this year.

Such considerations are not necessary for the fruit press in Antdorf, which is very popular in the Penzberg area, because the Schweyer cider factory that presses there already started again last week.

Unlike elsewhere, the Schweyers even have the hope of an “at least average season”, says owner Josef Schweyer.

At the same time, the Antdorf company is in no way certain of its forecast and observes with great concern “that the fruit trees have been badly affected by the weather this year.” Despite the gloomy prospects, all fruit press providers are happy about their numerous visitors Bring your own fruit to be pressed and get an aromatic juice back. Each with their own touch.
