It could get loud in the sky over Fürstenfeldbruck.

Over the next few weeks, Bundeswehr Eurofighters will be flying over the district again and again.

The places in the west are particularly affected.

District

- Regular renovation work on the runway at the Neuburg Air Base is the reason for aircraft noise in the Bruck district.

The Tactical Air Force Squadron 74 has to relocate flight operations to the Lechfeld.

The first Eurofighters are due to land on the NATO airfield on the border between the Landsberg and Augsburg districts as early as Wednesday, September 1st.

The relocation

Although the Lechfeld runway extends north-south, the Bruck district is not in its extension.

However, attachments and removals can also occur over this area.

"The relocation will take place in the morning and afternoon as part of normal flight operations," said Colonel Gordon Schnitger, commodore of the Neuburg squadron.

"This means that the machines in Neuburg start their exercises in the southern German airspace and end them on the Lechfeld." If all factors play a role, the 14 fighter planes to be relocated will be completely parked in their shelters by Thursday evening.

The military will not fly at the Neuburg airfield from September 6th to 19th.

Alarm cannot be planned

The routine training flight operations begin on Monday, September 6th, and generally omit lunchtime from 12.30 p.m. to 2 p.m., as well as the weekends.

Night flights are also not planned.

Exceptions could arise from the fact that the Neuburg Eurofighters also take over the security of the German airspace as a QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) alarm from Lechfeld.

Alarms in this regard cannot, of course, be planned and could also take place outside of the stated rest periods.

Season was already there

For most of the 300 or so soldiers and civil servants, the ongoing move to Lechfeld is nothing fundamentally new.

As early as 2015, the Neuburger used the official alternate airfield operated by the Neuburg airfield squadron for almost two years.

The last flying unit based on the Lechfeld was the (tornado) fighter-bomber squadron 32, which was disbanded in 2013.

The challenge

Since then, the 2.4 kilometer long runway has repeatedly been approached by various civil and military aircraft, but the complete relocation with maintenance and technology is still a challenge for everyone involved.

Halls, shelters and offices that have been empty for a long time have to be reactivated and the wiring with the highly complex Eurofighter weapon system has to be updated.

Last but not least, the hours of work are increased for guests (due to the commuting to the home base in Neuburg) and hosts (due to extended opening hours).

Due to the 24-hour availability of the QRA, tower and fire service personnel also have to switch to 24/7 working hours.

The future

The QRA's standby time begins on September 1st and ends on September 20th, the relocation of all Bavarian Eurofighters to Neuburg should be completed three days later.

In the future, the importance and thus the flight operations at the Lechfeld air base will increase.

A multinational air transport group is scheduled to begin operations in 2028.

In this context, ten of the A400Ms, which are used intensively for evacuation flights from Afghanistan, are permanently stationed on the Lechfeld.

Please understand

A spokesman for the squadron asks for understanding for the increased flight operations in the coming weeks: "We are trying to reduce the noise as much as possible through appropriate approach and departure procedures".
