The first to fall ill with Covid-19 was Ron Steadman, on August 1.

He went to the hospital to receive care and the doctors,

seeing him in good condition, sent him back to his house

with a treatment based on medicines.

The order was for him to notify if his condition worsened.

Two days later, his wife experienced symptoms

and confirmed that she was also infected.

While at

Winter Haven Hospital

The couple were among the 160 million Americans who

did not get vaccinated of their own accord

.

As she told the

, both had agreed that they would wait longer to schedule their vaccination,

considering that it was not safe enough.

"We both thought that because the vaccine came out so quickly ... How could they have done so many tests on it?

I was cautious about it

. Not that I was against vaccines," the woman said.

In the following days, Lisa's clinical picture worsened considerably.

He had very low oxygen levels and even lost consciousness at home.

She was then transferred to the hospital,

where she remained for more than a week.

Lisa and Ron Steadman were living together for four years.

The tragedy of Lisa and Ron Steadman

With him at home and she hospitalized, the couple maintained constant communication to find out her state of health.

They chatted normally, and within a week she began to tell him that she was feeling much better.

He also told her the same thing:

that he was improving satisfactorily.

A few days before she was discharged from the hospital, Ron told his wife that his phone was not working well.

Lisa's next attempts to talk to him always met with the same answer:

Ron's voice on his answering machine

.

Concerned, Lisa called the police to check on her husband's condition.

The policemen heeded the request.

They went and saw Ron.

It was in good condition and the report was transmitted to Lisa.

On the day of her discharge from the hospital,

the woman called her husband again to let him know that they would transfer her home, but Ron never answered husband.

The woman thought it was Ron's familiar deep sleep, which made it difficult for him to get up when he slept.

The tragedy broke into his life when he arrived at the door of his house.

As soon as she got out of the vehicle that transferred her, her three dogs were inside the house.

They barked nonstop.

But from the sounds and intensity of each bark,

Lisa knew there was something wrong with the scene.

She entered the house and guided by the animals, the 58-year-old woman went to their room.

Opening the door, she found a terrifying scene:

her husband was dead in bed.

"I just got hysterical," she told the Washington Post.

"It was like being in a horror movie

," she said.

“I can't get that image out of my head.

I wish I had never found it like that, ”she said in another

WFLA

interview

.

If some drama was missing from the story, Lisa portrayed it by telling what their plan was:

they were going to get vaccinated the first week of September.
