Today, the General Tobacco Corporation started operations to purchase the tobacco crop for the 2021-2022 season for the “Shak Al-Bint” variety through the crop purchase committees in the areas of cultivation of this variety.
Director of Agriculture and Scientific Research and Head of the Purchasing Committee at the General Tobacco Corporation, Ayman Qara Falah, said in a statement to SANA’s delegate that the Corporation has formed 15 committees in areas of widespread cultivation of the Shik al-Bint variety in the countryside of Tartous and Lattakia, including Qadmous, Blouza, Sardine, Khirbet al-Marqab and al-Dalia, in order to save effort and time and reduce burdens on Farmers to move their crop.
Qara Falah indicated that purchases are made in the presence of representatives of the Farmers' Union in Tartous and other governorates, and in the presence of the official media in each governorate.
The Foundation estimated the quantities of the tobacco crop and all varieties for the year 2021-2022 at about 8.5 million kg, which is less than the crop of last year in quantity and quality, due to the lack of rain and the drought that hit the region this year.
On the other hand, the Foundation, in cooperation with the Sadkob branch in Lattakia, distributed diesel fuel to farmers of the (Virginia) variety in the Al-Hawiz area, and the distribution will be successively according to the quantities received from the diesel in the agricultural areas of the Jableh and Qardaha Agriculture Divisions.
The Corporation, in coordination with the Governorate of Hama, continues to secure diesel for tobacco farmers in the agricultural areas of Hama Governorate.
