With the aim of improving the quality of education acquired by students and encouraging the idea of ​​interactive education, Damascus University is working to create an open center for digital medical education in the Faculty of Medicine, based on the fact that digital e-learning has become an effective method in modern medical education and an integral part of educational programs in international medical colleges.

Dr. Raed Abu Harb, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University, said in a statement to SANA during an introductory day organized by Damascus University today to introduce the center at the Reda Saeed Convention Center, “The creation of the center comes within the framework of the (DigiHealth) project, which was launched two years ago in cooperation between the University of Damascus. Damascus and the European Union-funded Erasmus Plus Education and Training Program with the aim of enhancing digital skills in medical education.”

And he indicated that the location of the center in the Faculty of Medicine has been determined and a sum of money has been allocated to equip it with advanced technical equipment. In cooperation with the Faculty of Informatics Engineering and other medical faculties in Syria, the trainers who will conduct medical education will be prepared.

The center, which was handed over to the Military Construction Corporation to begin its construction and organization from a structural point of view, according to Dr. Abu Harb, is a great achievement for students of medical colleges, as he will teach them modern technologies with high efficiency, as it will include model classes for the possibility of delivering quality educational lessons within it, which will be broadcast directly via the Internet. Abroad, they can follow and benefit from them and participate remotely in them, as well as they can participate in the events and scientific activities that will be organized in addition to recording lectures placed on the site so that students of medical colleges in public and private universities can benefit from them.

In turn, Dr. Ammar Jokhdar from the Faculty of Informatics Engineering explained that the center will include (model laboratories - laparoscopic surgery simulator, virtual reality laboratory and puppet laboratory - and a software suite through which expensive equipment can be dispensed with, including - anatomy simulator, virtual patient, discovery of drug interactions and first aid training). Where a first model was built in cooperation with the Faculty of Informatics, in addition to an educational hall and distance learning tools, which contributes to raising the level of medical education using digital technologies, and the center is expected to be equipped within three months.

Dr. Jamila Hassian, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Damascus University, saw that the center is an important step for the development of the educational process at the university in general and in medical faculties in particular, as well as in faculties of pharmacy, especially the clinical aspect, as the process of drug development requires several phases. A digital simulation that monitors the effect of the drug, emphasizing the necessity of turning everything into digital in education, whether scientific references or lectures, so that the student can obtain all the information related to any specialty he is looking for, and the educational lectures can be downloaded to be available in the hands of all students in general.

Dr. Osama Al-Jabban, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Damascus University, indicated that the college has completed stages in electronic digital education through the Zoom electronic platform for distance education, through which lectures and meetings of graduate students with distinguished international lecturers are broadcast.
