The discussion about the new parking machines at Lake Walchensee caused a lot of waves.

A conversation should smooth things over now.

The results, however, were not very tangible.

Jachenau - After landlords had complained that the recently introduced parking fee on the south bank of 5 euros a day led to a loss of sales, the community has now sought the conversation. At a meeting between Mayor Klaus Rauchberger and the entrepreneurs concerned this week, there were only a few tangible results. At the request of the Tölzer Kurier, Rauchberger reports what, from his point of view, came out of the discussion: namely “relatively little”, as he says. But he does mention a few points. "We have to communicate better that the parking tickets are valid in the entire municipality," said the mayor. That means, for example: "Anyone who goes to the Benediktenwand in the morning and parks in Petern,Jump into the Walchensee in the afternoon and end the day in a restaurant in the evening and park at the Schützenhaus or in Niggeln, you can use the same parking ticket everywhere.

Stickers should make it clear which machines belong to the municipality

Because most of the visitors are understandably not aware of which parking machines exactly belong to the municipality of Jachenau, this is now being made clear by means of stickers.

Regarding the desire for uniform parking fees in the entire region around the Walchensee, the community "unfortunately has no influence," says Rauchberger.

But at least: The same tariff applies in Lenggries, Wallgau, Krün, Mittenwald and Jachenau.

Only in Kochel am See you have to pay 6 euros per day for parking - plus 2 euros tourist tax.

Short-term ticket should be discussed

Rauchberger wants to put the proposal to introduce a short-term ticket up for discussion in the local council. The mayor reminds, however, that the opinion prevailing in the committee recently that one does not want to throw the parking fees over again after such a short time. It was said from the start that the parking system would only be tested after a season.

He was accused of the new parking fees being to blame for up to 90 percent drop in sales among restaurateurs, says Rauchberger.

He still doesn't want to put on this shoe.

He stays the same: The fact that there is less activity at Walchensee this year is due to the "terribly bad" summer.

Because it was never permanently hot, the water in the lake remained cold.

And because of the heavy rain, the water level is high, so that there are hardly any sunbathing areas at some popular bathing areas, such as the “Spitz”.

Even in the weeks before the parking machines were set up on July 16, there was not much going on because of this.

Jachenauer can park for free

According to the mayor, citizens and businesses could even be happy that the municipality has taken over the management of the parking spaces.

It is well known that the state forests are the landowners on the south bank.

If the community hadn't leased the parking spaces, then, so Rauchberger, it would certainly not have been difficult to find a private operator.

He would probably have asked for an even higher fee, as you can see in the private parking lots on the other bank of the Walchensee.

The forest company even proposed a daily rate of 10 euros.

The municipality, on the other hand, enables citizens of Jachenau to park for free with a parking permit that they receive in the town hall.

This also applies to holders of the guest card who stay in Jachenau accommodation establishments.

But the toll - it costs another 5 euros - has always existed, long before the introduction of additional parking fees.

And if you just want to jump into the lake quickly in the evening, you don't have to pay it at all, because the forest employees who collect them end work at 5 p.m.
