Austria is tightening the thumbscrews: From Wednesday it will be more expensive in Austria if road users do not adhere to the speed limits.

District / Tyrol

- Yes, who has not been angry about the zealous law enforcement officers in neighboring Austria, formerly the gendarmerie, now the federal police. Because they stopped somewhere in Seefeld or elsewhere in the Ausserfern region with a laser gun - and asked the German car driver to pay. One often gets the subjective feeling, of course, that there is no more popular area for the police beyond the border than traffic surveillance. Horror tales of draconian punishments then quickly make the rounds. Whatever is true - from tomorrow, Wednesday, it will definitely be more expensive in Austria if road users do not adhere to the speed limits. As of September 1st, the fines in the Alpine republic will be doubled. Speeders face fines up to a maximum of 5,000 euros. And there is also a bit of arbitrariness in the system, because: "Since there is no uniform catalog of fines in Austria, the amount of the fine is at the discretion of the respective authority," explains ADAC traffic expert Alexander Kreipl. "You should inform yourself about the rules as exactly."

The ADAC lists some of the new fines: Exceeding more than 30 kilometers per hour - regardless of whether in town or outside - will cost at least 150 euros in the future. Anyone out of town who is more than 50 above the permitted value is included with a minimum of 300 euros. There is also a one-month driving ban in Austria (the same rule applies to exceeding 40 km / h in urban areas). Even six months without a license are due if real speedsters are 80 (in urban areas) or 90 km / h too fast.

Markus Stückl, press spokesman for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen police force, took a look at the German catalog of fines for the daily newspaper: In urban areas it remains up to 23 km / h above the limit of 50 kilometers per hour at a maximum of 35 euros including a warning.

Points plus a fine are awarded if the vehicle exceeds 25 km / h.

Then 80 euros are due on site, 70 euros outside.

There is a one-month driving ban from 34 km / h at which a road user is above the maximum permitted speed in urban areas (outside from 46 km / h above).

In addition, there would be 160 euros.

It gets really expensive from 75 km / h over, i.e. in urban areas from a speed of 125 km / h: Then more than 600 euros have to be paid, plus a three-month driving ban.
