BMW is sharpening its business sedan again - and is planning an M5 that really has it all.

Munich - The automotive industry is in the middle of the transformation towards alternative drives.

But with the classic combustion engines, the big manufacturers don't let anything go wrong.

This is especially true for the high-priced and correspondingly high-margin top segment.

Reports about the Bavarian automaker BMW spill over from Great Britain: The Munich - or their high-performance forge M GmbH - are apparently working flat out on a befitting successor to the current BMW M5 *.

BMW M5: Despite the Euro 7 emissions standard - Brute sports sedan should have 750 hp

If the report from the

Autocar

portal is

correct

, the successor to the M5 series F90, which was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 2017, will be launched with a powerful 750 horsepower.

Accordingly, the high-performance sedan will differ significantly from the current model in terms of both design and engine.

The challenge for the BMW engineers is also to reconcile this concern with the upcoming Euro 7 emissions standard. The drive train of the next BMW M5 will consist of a plug-in hybrid system. The biturbo V8 of the current M5 generation (internal identifier S63) would be combined with an electric motor and generate a total output of 750 hp. The electric drivetrain is said to contribute 200 hp.

However, anyone who thinks that the range of services of the BMW 5 series has reached the limit is mistaken.

Because this variant is supposedly topped by an electric croesus - a spearhead that is located above the BMW i5 planned for 2023.

This BMW iM5 would even delight fans of the traditional Munich brand * with a performance of around 800 hp.

For comparison: the current top model of the 5 series is the BMW M5 CS with 635 hp.

Many fans are excited about the BMW rumors, but there are also voices on social networks that critically evaluate the incessant increase in performance data, as in the case of the next BMW M5 generation.

“It seems to be fashionable that everything has to be done quickly,” says a Facebook user.

The announcement of major changes to the design also makes fans uncomfortable: “Please do not change.

The M5 is the last halfway decent looking BMW that is left ”, so the thesis of one user.

Another has only one wish: "Please no monster kidney" - and alludes to the fuss surrounding the design of the more recent model history *.

In the meantime, we talked to Professor Ferdinand Dudenhöffer after the EU's climate resolutions. The auto expert calls for a swift move away from combustion engines and says: "Refueling will hurt in the future."
