Cyclone 'Nora' causes at least one death in Puerto Vallarta

The cyclone formed on August 25 over the Pacific coast. In its history, it has touched six states and affected 44 municipalities, according to the authorities. This Saturday at four in the morning it became a category 1 hurricane and that same day it made landfall at night in Puerto Vallarta, a tourist city in which it caused heavy rains, floods and landslides. The partial collapse of the hotel that caused the death of the minor, in the center of Puerto Vallarta, occurred due to the overflow of the Cuale River, according to the State Governor, Enrique Alfaro, on social networks. "To his family, who came to our port from Spain seven years ago, and to his loved ones, all our support and our deepest condolences," added the politician.

The cyclone degraded to a tropical storm on Sunday and, although it has already weakened to low remaining pressure, the National Meteorological Service foresees torrential rains for this Monday in Sinaloa, where it is currently located; Intense precipitations in areas of Chihuahua, Durango, Guerrero and Sonora, and very strong in Chiapas, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla, Veracruz and Zacatecas.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is working to restore electricity to 355,092 users without electricity in the states of Michoacán, Jalisco, Colima and Nayarit.
