The European Union will recommend this Monday that member states reinstate travel restrictions due to covid-19 and suspend non-essential travel from the United States and five other countries, according to various reports.

The EU would reinstate coronavirus travel restrictions, such as quarantine and testing requirements for unvaccinated travelers from those countries, two diplomats told Reuters.

A diplomat told Reuters that the other countries to be removed from the safe travel list would be Kosovo, Israel, Montenegro, Lebanon and North Macedonia.

The decision to renew travel restrictions would be final on Monday if no country in the bloc objects, the sources, as well as two EU officials, told Reuters.
