"There is no valid reason not to throw your waste in a trash can."
Tuesday August 3, during a trip between the 15th arrondissement of Paris, to the south-west of the capital, and the city of Levallois-Perret, to the north-west, Alix picks up around 80 masks. Since 2020, this new waste linked to the health crisis has been accumulating. Particularly visible, they are added to cigarette butts, cans and rubbish of all kinds. For this volunteer, the pandemic was a trigger.
"I could not any more. There were too many masks on the floor. ”
After having started with the waste that dots her journeys, Alix then joined the Parisian branch of CleanWalker. This association organizes hundreds of
"cleanwalks"
bringing together volunteers to collect litter and educate passers-by.
It has around thirty local relays, including four in Île-de-France.
In Paris, Alix estimates that she has already collected around 2,000 masks in less than six months.
