Stormy in Maccabi Tel Aviv: Calls for the dismissal of Van Levon | Israel Today

2021-08-30T05:34:33.239Z

The coach and professional manager Barak Yitzhaki were marked by the crowd as responsible for the weak ability • The club is not excited about the loss to Bnei Sakhnin: "We will fix what needs to be fixed" • Efforts to close the Kanikovsky deal

The season has barely begun but a large part of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans are already calling for the end of the role of coach Patrick Van Leven.

But not only the coach was marked by the crowd, but also the professional manager, Barak Yitzhaki, whom the fans accuse of letting the stars of the previous two seasons leave - from Jonathan Cohen, through Dor Peretz, Itai Schechter and Eitan Tibi, to poor and late construction of the staff.

"The writing was on the wall," said one of the fans, "this is what a team that released and sold all its assets looks like. They destroyed our team."

Fans are also angry that there is a possibility that Parfaa Guyagon, who is considered one of the great talents at the club, will leave in favor of Maccabi Netanya, as part of talks about the trade with Gabi Kanikovsky.

Despite all this, Maccabi refuses to get excited.

A source at the club said: "We need to take things in proportion. We are just the first round in the league. There are a lot of things to fix and we will fix everything. The players also have to give a lot more of themselves."

The players around added: "We looked complete against Sakhnin. There is no magic in football. When you change half a team and bring in substitutes, only this month is the situation."

Maccabi hopes to finally close the Gabi Kanikovsky deal, when Netanya tries to persuade Eden Kartzev to join its ranks, in order for the deal to go through.

Otherwise, the vice-champion will have to give up Bar Cohen and, as mentioned, maybe also Guyagon.

Efforts are also being made in Kiryat Shalom to sign a foreign winger in the coming days.
