Miesbach - Many are watching the current developments in Afghanistan with concern - also in Miesbach.

The members of the Miesbacher SPD have been following developments in Afghanistan with great concern for a long time.

Inge Jooß, integration officer and city councilor, wrote an open letter that the representatives of several Miesbach groups signed.

The document went to the politicians Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Lars Klingbeil, Horst Seehofer, Andreas Wagner, Ilse Aigner, Gülseren Demirel, Christian Lindner, Alexander Radwan, Claudia Roth, Florian Post and Heiko Maas.

The wording of the open letter:

“Afghanistan is a country whose citizens have not had a peaceful time for decades.

It is a country in which the interests of changing domestic and foreign powers have destroyed structures and cultures.

For almost 20 years, German soldiers tried to use their presence and their skills to provide assistance to the population and to support the legally elected politicians.

They could not have fulfilled their task without the help of local workers in various functions.

And so we are all responsible for them.

They have become the victims of an - unsuccessful - campaign.

Anyone who is informed about the unstable situation in Afghanistan knows about the endangerment of the Afghans who were in German service.

Anyone who speaks to Afghan refugees who are now living here with us can hear about the threats that are making a normal life impossible for the former aid workers and their families.

It cannot be that you turn your back on the people you had to rely on every day and say goodbye, never to be seen again.

It cannot be that those wishing to leave the country have to endure weeks of fear because the necessary organizations and structures do not (yet) exist.

Above all, however, it must not be the case that the soldiers' private appeal for donations must be used to raise money for the flights to Germany!

The costs for the Bundeswehr mission in Afghanistan amounted to around 12.5 billion euros - the necessary flight tickets would only increase insignificantly!

This time the Americans acted in an exemplary manner and immediately packed their helpers on the plane - we, who like to carry our values in front of us, can only be ashamed of our behavior.

We ask you, as our elected representatives, to fulfill your obligation and to call for a humane policy by all means!
