The 14th General Conference of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions condemned terrorism in all its names and forms, expressing its appreciation for the efforts of all the forces that fight it and fight it, especially the Syrian people, workers, army and leadership.
At the conclusion of its work in the Egyptian city of Hurghada, the participants in the conference called on all the living forces in the world to condemn terrorism and the necessity of combating it, including economic terrorism represented by the economic blockade and the unjust sanctions imposed by some countries to achieve their agenda.
The conference also condemned the racist practices of the Israeli occupation authorities against Arab workers in Palestine, the Golan and all the occupied Arab territories.
The final statement of the conference called for approaching the challenges facing Arab workers in all their countries and countries, including the challenges of poverty and unemployment, in addition to the challenges of closure and precautionary measures to confront the Corona virus and the need to conduct an awareness campaign on the dangers of terrorism and follow educational policies that prevent young people from falling into its clutches and support sustainable development plans and increase production In all Arab countries.
The statement stressed the importance of enhancing the presence of Arab trade union organizations among their masses, emulating their issues, achieving their aspirations, and being open to regional and international union blocs to create a common understanding on all issues and challenges facing our Arab nation.
The statement stressed the importance of constructive cooperation between the partners “the parties to the Arab production process” governments, employers and workers to draw development policies that achieve the aspirations of workers or improve their conditions and provide job opportunities to eliminate unemployment in all countries of the Arab world, as well as activate coordination and cooperation with all friendly unions and trade union blocs to support Arab causes and issues of Arab workers.
The statement pointed out the need for governments to give the issue of occupational health and safety the necessary attention to reduce work accidents, activate the Arab Institute for Labor Studies in Damascus, and launch extensive trade union and labor training and qualification programmes.
The conference approved important constitutional amendments towards giving flexibility and decentralization in the work of the Union, modernizing, developing and streamlining work methods and in response to the changes of more than half a century.
During the conference, Jamal Al-Qadri, President of the General Federation of Trade Unions in Syria, was elected Secretary-General of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions for the next five years, Star Danbos, President of the Iraqi Workers Federation, as Deputy Secretary-General and representative of each Qatari organization to the membership of the General Secretariat, and Gebali Mohamed Al-Maraghi, President of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation, as Chairman of the Council The Central Bank of the International Federation, Youssef Abdel Karim, President of the Sudan Workers Union, as Vice-Chairman, and Ahmed Al-Enezi, President of the Kuwait Workers Union, as Vice-Chairman.
