The United Nations warns of a major humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

Today, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) warned of a major humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Reuters quoted the UNHCR as saying that "a major humanitarian crisis is beginning to beset Afghanistan and its 39 million people," noting that the air evacuations from Kabul will end within a few days, amid fears of a major humanitarian tragedy.

The World Food Program of the United Nations warned last week of the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan due to the decline in food aid supplies, especially after the Taliban movement took control of the country.
