With the participation of 59 teams from robotic clubs in various governorates, the National Championship for the World Robot Olympiad for 2021, organized by the Syrian Scientific Olympiad Department in the Excellence and Creativity Authority at the Ebla Hotel and Conference Palace in Damascus, kicked off today.

The tournament, which is held under the title “Future of Energy”, includes three competitions, the regular competition, in which 43 teams registered, divided into three age groups: “Primary category for ages 10 to 13 years,” “intermediate category for ages 13 to 16 years” and “Upper category.” For ages 16 to 19 years.” As for the second competition, which is open, 9 teams were registered, while 8 teams were registered in the third competition, “Engineers of the Future.”

Teams in the regular competition build and program robots that simulate energy modernization in homes, charge cars in the garage, and manage the energy mix on the grid, while teams in the open competition develop robotic projects that allow us to use renewable energy sources in efficient ways.

As for the “Future Engineers” competition, which is being held for the first time and involves the engineering side, this year it comes under the title “Challenge of Autonomous Vehicles” and includes the design and programming of robots that operate independently under the concept of autonomous driving.

SANA monitored the start and atmosphere of the tournament, where Dr. Muhib Al-Naqari, head of the Scientific Committee for Robotics at the Excellence and Creativity Authority, said that the competition today is strong and large due to the increase in the number of teams participating in the tournament year after year, indicating that it constitutes an important opportunity to stimulate the energies of young people in the field of artificial intelligence and electronics.

Dr. Muhannad Makki, a member of the Central Scientific Committee for Robotics in Syria and a judge in the “Engineers of the Future” competition, indicated that the aim of this new competition is to transfer problems that exist in real life to school students to teach them how to solve these problems in an engineering and logical way to reach a result by teamwork. And using various sciences that include “mathematics, programming and physics”.

“We are participating for the first time in the tournament and we are proud of this, it is an important event and all schools should be encouraged to participate in spreading the culture of robotics, because it is the science of the age in which mathematics, engineering and programming meet,” said Tamim Abu Al-Shamlat, a robotic trainer at Al-Shaheed Al-Kumait Belidi Secondary School for Outstanding Students in Latakia.

The Genius team, which includes Nour Wannous, Ali Ibrahim and Hassan Mia, explained in their statement to SANA that their project is a power plant using alternative energies within a forest, i.e. electricity is generated in a way that is not harmful to the environment to supply the areas adjacent to the forest with permanent electricity.

The Syria Robot team, which includes Mahmoud al-Hamda, Sirin Abu Zarar and Anton Farah, pointed out that their project aims to exploit the surplus renewable energy and convert it into usable energy that helps vehicles run more. their capabilities.

From the primary category in the regular competition, the team, which includes Omar Haboubati, Patel Permanjian and Krikor Borsemian, expressed their happiness to participate in the tournament because it fulfills their ambition to learn robotics and programming and make discoveries in this field.

The 2021 World Robot Olympiad National Championship will last for two days and is considered eligible to participate in the World Robot Olympiad finals, which will be held "remotely" during the month of November.
