They actually didn't want to put it back into operation, but it has been working again for a few days: the traffic light system at the intersection between Hindenburgstrasse and Nockhergasse.
The decision to have the traffic light, which had been broken since April, repaired, was mainly made for reasons of safety on the way to school, as City Hall manager Falko Wiesenhütter explains on request.
However, the flow of traffic at the intersection “worked very, very well” even without the traffic lights. Therefore, as reported, the town hall considered whether “other solutions” for traffic control could also be considered.
For example, narrowing the lane or routing traffic with the help of plastic elements would have been possible.
"When we weighed up the costs and benefits, we came to the conclusion that upgrading the traffic light is the cheapest and safest solution," said Wiesenhütter.
Oldest traffic light system in Bad Tölz
The repair of the oldest traffic light system in Bad Tölz was "not entirely trivial" because a control device was difficult to find.
Ultimately, the costs would have been around 21,000 euros.
The measure was planned in such a way that the traffic light system works again in good time before school starts.
Long-term goal: a roundabout
In the longer term, according to Wiesenhütter, nothing will change in terms of the goal of building a roundabout at this point. A fundamental redesign of the intersection is desirable for visual and urban planning reasons alone. “At the moment we have an unbelievable width of the street that is not really needed,” says Wiesenhütter, describing the current tar desert. "But that's not something that can be done in a short time." It would probably take years before such a large building project was completed - because of the safety on the way to school, there is no period in which you could temporarily do without a traffic light.
