Pfizer: Vaccine is not the only measure to contain covid-19 6:15

(CNN Spanish) -

Vaccines against covid-19 continue to generate questions among our audience.

This week, Dr. Elmer Huerta answers questions about the combination of different vaccines, the protection time they offer after the second dose and their use with specific diseases or medications.

Also, we answer other questions about contagion and protection against the virus.

You can listen to this episode on Spotify or your favorite podcast platform or read the transcript below.

Hello, I am Dr. Elmer Huerta and this is your dose of information about the new coronavirus, information that we hope will be useful to take care of your health and that of your family.

Today we will answer some questions that we have been asked on our Twitter account @DrHuerta.

Questions about the covid-19 vaccine

@drhuerta Thank you very much for all the truthful information about COVID-19, I have followed you since before the pandemic.

A query.

I listened to your 310 podcast on the combination of AstraZeneca and Moderna.

Can the order be reversed?

Can you put Moderna first and then AstraZeneca?

- Mercedes Cárdenas (@CardenasMeche) August 28, 2021

Good question, Mercedes.

As far as we know, the CoM-Cov study showed that it is possible to combine the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines in any order.

For now, only the combination of AstraZeneca followed by Moderna has been studied.

@drhuerta I have the first dose of Astrazeneca, when can I give myself the second dose?

And can this be modern?

Thanks

- Andrea Sucalesco (@AndreaSucalesco) August 28, 2021

Hello Andrea.

The manufacturer recommends that the second dose of AstraZeneca be administered 28 days after the first.

The combination of AstraZeneca followed by Moderna has also been studied and approved.

You should talk to your doctor before making a decision.

@drhuerta, can I advance the second dose of Pfitzer vaccine to 18 days instead of 21?

- sofia f madero (@bailosofia) August 26, 2021

Hello Sofia.

I don't understand the reason for wanting to make that change, but I'm telling you that phase 1 and phase 2 studies determined that the best interval is 21 days or three weeks.

Perhaps for some exceptional reason it can be done, but only with your doctor's permission.

Hello there!!

I would like to know how safe the combination of doses is ... I have the first from Sputnik and I doubt that the second will arrive (I am Argentine), here they are combining it with AstraZeneca and modern.

It is ignorant perhaps, but I do not trust much in the combinations

- Cecilia ..- (@ cecilitta23) August 25, 2021

Hello cecilia.

I congratulate you for always being critical of the medicines you use, including vaccines.

From what was reported, the Ministry of Health of the City of Buenos Aires did a scientific study, which showed that this combination was safe and effective.

@drhuerta, do the "attenuated virus" vaccines have some kind of hormone or do they generate a hormonal reaction in women with severe endometriosis?

- saigonita (@ saigonita2) August 25, 2021

Hello, Saigonite.

If your question is in relation to any of the covid-19 vaccines, I tell you that only one vaccine has been reported that uses attenuated virus, that is, weakened and that can cause a mild form of the disease.

It's called CODAGENIX and it's still under study.

It is not yet known if it has side effects related to the hormonal system.

good morning @drhuerta.

My question is the following:

How long am I protected, after finishing my pfizer vaccination scheme?

- Luis Enriqe Galan (@ Henry_OL7) August 25, 2021

Excellent question, Luis.

The protection time given by vaccines is in full study, remember that these have been used in clinical studies since the middle of last year and that they are used massively in the community, only since the beginning of this year.

However, as we heard in the March 18 episode, people who have received an organ transplant do not produce an adequate amount of antibodies, so both the FDA and the EMA have recommended giving a booster dose to those people. , as well as others who have their immunity depressed.

@drhuerta

good

morning

.

I am from Italy.

our children are 12 and 13 years old and they are quite small, they are not developed.

We are afraid that the Covid vaccine could do something wrong because they are not adults.

what do you think?

should we vaccinate you?

Thank you very much for your information

- Nik (@ Nik59305060) August 24, 2021

Hi Nik.

Hopefully the pediatrician who cares for your children has explained to you the reason for what you perceive as being quite small and undeveloped.

Apart from that, I can tell you that, in general, the benefit of the vaccine is much greater than the risks that may arise.

I think you should have a long conversation with the pediatrician.

@drhuerta I vaccinated with Pfizer, but the 2nd dose was placed at 7 weeks.

By leaving more time, do the antibodies that should be generated by the 2nd dose decrease?

Thanks

- VM (@ ValeriaMonterr4) August 27, 2021

Hi VM, great question.

Don't worry about the delay between your first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

Remember that some countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom have spaced the time between the two doses by up to 12 weeks.

The appearance of the delta variant, however, forced a return to the three-week interval recommended by the manufacturer.

Questions about diseases and the covid-19 vaccine

@drhuerta if a person uses biological medicine treatment

AND gets the vaccine against covid 19 it could affect the biologic treatment

- Norian Franklin (@NorianFranklin) August 28, 2021

Excellent question, Norian.

A study carried out in patients with inflammatory bowel disease showed that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were able to induce the formation of an adequate amount of neutralizing antibodies.

Anyway, please talk to your doctor.

From Guatemala, I know someone 70 years old who does not want to be vaccinated because he suffers from heart, hypertension and has arthritis.

Her cardiologist told her that the risk was greater than the benefit from possible side effects.

You have not been vaccinated.

- VM (@ ValeriaMonterr4) August 27, 2021

Hi VM.

It is a pity that you tell us that the cardiologist does not understand that it is precisely the other way around.

Your patient has a very high chance of complications if infected, and the benefit of the vaccine is many times higher than the risk of side effects from the vaccine.

Questions about the spread of coronavirus

Doctor, thanks for the information, when thinking about returning to the office, which is small and has no ventilation, I could bring my own filters, since they did not implement any of this there;

I would like to know which ones to buy.

- Adriana Murcia (@ Adriana66635246) August 28, 2021

Hello Adriana.

Unfortunately, bringing your own filters is not going to work.

That's because the filters that offices use are connected to a system called HVAC, which stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.

The HVAC unit is responsible for heating or cooling the air in the building and provides ventilation to regulate humidity.

D. Huerta, I really appreciate it, would you please guide me, surrounding alcohol in the air is also a bad thing? Some aerosols contain alcohol, is it not good?

Doctor Huerta with all due respect, because they do not analyze the blood of the patients and verify if it is C19 or we are being poisoned😥

- Angela (@Angydelasflores) August 28, 2021

Hi Angela.

Spraying alcohol in the air does not believe that it has any effect on the prevention of covid-19.

Much easier, more practical and efficient is to open the windows and ventilate the room.

@drhuerta Good afternoon, dr Huerta, how long does it take to do a PCR test at the end of the quarantine?

- MARÍA 👅 (@ Marijo_RJ9) August 26, 2021

Hello Maria.

Actually, there is no need for a person to have a PCR test after coming out of quarantine.

It is enough with the clinical discharge, that is to say, the one made by the doctor.

Other questions about the coronavirus

Greetings.

I hear people say "I've caught a cold" these days.

Assuming all the correct covid prevention measures are being taken, is it possible for a weaker virus (the common cold) to bypass those prevention measures?

- Cesar EC (@cesargastonec) August 26, 2021

Excellent question, Caesar.

In fact, knowing that the contagion of both viruses is produced by aerosols, the opportunity of contagion of either of these viruses is a consequence of the type of virus that is in a closed space.

@drhuerta it is said that the virus resists the immune system and if it is vaccinated it mutates to overcome that additional barrier of protection.

It's true?

Thanks

- angel (@ninotigre) August 25, 2021

Hello Angel.

That is not true.

The mutation of a virus occurs when it multiplies billions of times in an infected person.

Knowing that infections can occur in vaccinated people, it is possible -from the theoretical point of view- that mutations can also occur in these, but in no way would they be induced by the effect of the vaccines.

@drhuerta doctor good evening, I would like to know if taking an IGG test effectively tells me what antibodies I have after receiving the second dose of sinovac!

Thank you

- Adriana Murcia (@ Adriana66635246) August 25, 2021

Hello Adriana.

Antibody tests to evaluate the effect of a vaccine have not been approved by either the FDA or the WHO.

This is because they have not yet been standardized and it is very difficult to evaluate their results.

Can you drink red wine or beer occasionally and in moderation after having covid?

- RunningAfondo (@corrandoAfondo) August 24, 2021

Hello, Running.

Of course, a vaccinated person can restart their routine of life, having to be careful not to become infected, using masks in closed and very crowded places.
