Jump assistant: "Dance Soulution"

Kaufbeuren - Local cultural actors who have met the restrictions of the corona pandemic in a particularly creative and committed manner will be brought to the public's attention this summer with the “Defiant Phase” campaign by the city's cultural committee through an extensive media package. The Kreisbote accompanied the project with a series of articles and presented one of the imaginatively named defiant phase categories every Wednesday. Last, but not least, in the last part of the series you will get to know the “jump assistants”: Chris Meirich's dance and fitness studio “Dance Soulution”.

The 34-year-old stage dancer, choreographer and dance teacher Meirich with certified specialist training in dance medicine opened his dance and fitness studio “Dance Soulution” in 2011. At that time he noticed that something like this was missing in Kaufbeuren. In his lessons, he wanted to "convey and pass on the fun and joy of dancing in a professional manner, in addition to the fundamentals of dance technique," says Meirich. The success proved him right: “Dance Soulution” could look forward to its tenth anniversary this year (we reported).

Actually there should have been a terrific anniversary show - unfortunately, obeying the circumstances, only a good message was possible on Facebook and the dancer and dance studio owner was happy that he was able to keep his business at least to some extent thanks to the modern communication technology.

During the lockdowns, daily live streams and video messages provided motivation and animation and a feeling of being involved in something big.

Individual videos became group videos and a large joint dance video. In addition, every evening from Monday to Friday, the members had the opportunity to take part in one or two fitness live classes via live stream on the homepage

. Even interested non-members could get access to the live stream over the phone. And also virtually, Chris Meirich made sure that nobody gets out of line. Dance videos were made available in the Dropbox for all groups and updated from time to time so that everyone at home could access and train the choreographies and exercise videos at any time. Courses were and are also offered in cooperation with “Gesunde Kommune Kaufbeuren”.

During the lockdown, all membership fees were also suspended and instead an appeal was made to the members' willingness to support. Not least because of this, there were hardly any layoffs. However, after the second lockdown, which at around seven months was more than twice as long as the first at three months, it took significantly longer for everything to return to normal, reported Meirich. "But almost all of the members have remained loyal to us," says the delighted "Dance Soulution" owner and hopes that we can currently continue as before the summer - "that is a compromise that is easy to make."

However, the preparations for the big anniversary show planned in the city hall are still in the balance. It should take place on the weekend of May 28th and 29th, 2022. The rehearsals should actually start now, but the Corona regulations, which change every hour, and the fluctuation in the groups, do not provide sufficient planning security overall.

A big thank you to the city for the support during the two lockdowns is particularly important to the “Dance Soulution” owner. Meirich is also "incredibly grateful" to the members for their support, otherwise the studio would not have survived this difficult time so well. The twelve trainers also stayed at his side and did not look elsewhere. First and foremost Ina Rinas, who has been with us from the start and is jokingly referred to by Meirich as “my right, left, upper and lower hand”. Therefore, his special thanks go to his great team.
