The Bavarian Science Minister Bernd Sibler was guaranteed a friendly welcome on Monday in the Benediktbeuern monastery.

After all, the Free State had contributed millions to the ongoing renovation.

Benediktbeuern

- The Bavarian Science Minister Bernd Sibler (CSU) was able to go to an on-site appointment at the Benediktbeuern monastery on Monday.

It was pouring rain here - but headwinds were hardly to be expected.

Because from the facility manager Father Claudius Amann Sibler was able to collect the thanks for the million dollar injection of the Free State for the ongoing renovation of the southern arcade wing.

And for Prof. Hermann Sollfrank, President of the Catholic Foundation University (KSH) located in the monastery, Sibler had a promise in his luggage, which was also gladly heard: "The winter semester will essentially take place in attendance."

Repair work in the southern arcade wing of Benediktbeuern monastery

The science minister had come to the monastery at the invitation of the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Miesbach district associations of the Junge Union and the CSU local association Benediktbeuern-Bichl.

The event was part of the campaign series “Radwander-Tour” of the local CSU direct candidate Alexander Radwan.

In the beautiful setting of the monastery, Radwan was able to be congratulated on the one hand on his 57th birthday, on the other hand he received friendly words from the host.

Claudius Amann emphasized that Radwan had campaigned for the federal government to contribute 7.6 million euros to the Salesians of Don Bosco for the renovation of the southern arcade tract.

A further 1.3 million euros will flow into the project from the Free State via the State Office for Monument Preservation, which will cost more than 20 million euros in total.

"Not only church, also Benediktbeuern monastery founded on rock"

During a tour, the politicians and the crowd of CSU activists present were convinced of the progress of the work. "Not only is the church founded on a rock, but also the southern arcade wing from now on," said architect Knut Prill. The work is necessary because of "various static problems". Because the foundation pillars had become increasingly separated, the stability was endangered. As structural planner JanSchubert reported, piles were rammed under the building down to the gravel floor, which is twelve meters below the yielding clay soil. "Now the statics are bombproof."

Even though the foundation university, the largest tenant of the monastery, is located in the opposite wing, its facility will also benefit from the measure, emphasized Prof. Sollfrank.

“This improvement of the infrastructure is essential for us.” In the meantime, the “cycling tour” group had taken a seat in the large lecture hall.

"What you are experiencing here we haven't had for a year and a half," said the President.

President of the Catholic Foundation University: "We need to be present"

Even if we managed to switch everything to purely digital teaching within 48 hours “and we coped well with the time”, Sollfrank made it clear: “We need face-to-face operations.” Most of the students had made a conscious decision in favor of Benediktbeuern as a place of study decided, added Prof. Fritz Böckh, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work. You would have to experience this special atmosphere on site in order to recommend it to others. “That is the best marketing for us,” says Sollfrank.

With the Center for Environment and Culture (ZUK), the politicians finally visited the third element in the special Benediktbeurer triad.

Radwan took this as an opportunity to explain his view of environmental policy, which is based on “responsibility for creation out of faith”.

The big difference to the Greens is that the CSU does set goals, but leaves science, engineers and companies free to implement them, according to the motto: "May the better win."
