Tegernsee / Binz - Ceilings and walls paneled with wood, sturdy tables and chairs in the style typical of the Bräustüberl, pictures of traditional folk playing Schuhplattler, the bar with taps made of copper, on which the coat of arms of the Ducal Tegernsee brewery stands out.

Outside the view of the water.

No, this time it's not the Tegernsee - it's the Baltic Sea.

In the Kurhaus Binz on Rügen, which belongs to Travel Charme Hotels & Resorts, the "Tegernseer Wirtshaus & Biergarten Binz" was created in cooperation with the Tegernsee brewery.

"The Kurhaus Binz is a legend and known far beyond the borders of Ruegen," enthuses Daniel Eickworth, Managing Director of Travel Charme Hotels & Resorts.

“It is very important to us to combine history and modernity and to create experiences.

Through the cooperation with the Tegernsee brewery, we bring Bavarian flair to the north. ”How did the liaison come about?

Mr. Wagner, how did the collaboration come about?

In the course of the takeover of the Hotel Bachmair am See in Rottach-Egern by the Hirmer Group, we got in touch with the managing directors of the operating company Travel Charme Hotels & Resorts at the end of 2020. The group also includes the Kurhaus Binz on Rügen , a landmark and tourist center of the island for over 100 years. A new catering concept was already planned for the house at that time. We were quickly enthusiastic about the idea of bringing a piece of Tegernsee to the Baltic Sea with the connection to the Hotel Bachmair am See. The tree-surrounded terrace of the Kurhaus Binz is the perfect place for a beer garden in connection with a Bavarian economy. We were very happy to contribute our knowledge and experience to the planning and to support the Travel Charme team in the implementation. The opening will take place this spring. Now vacationers and islanders can also enjoy a well-tended Tegernseer Helles with a view of the Baltic Sea.

Is that the northernmost “outpost” for the brewery?

Yes, in this form the Tegernseer Wirtshaus & Biergarten Binz is definitely the northernmost outpost.

How many inns of this type are there actually?

On Rügen it is run by the Kurhaus, the brewery gives its name ... Can you also reveal how many countries in which Tegernsee beer is now served in restaurants?

We are very closely rooted in our origins, so exports play a subordinate role and make up around two percent.

Our customers are in Austria, Northern Italy, Switzerland and Lichtenstein.

On average, the Bavarian breweries have an export share of around 24 percent.

There is also the Binz wine shop on the property?

Is that compatible with the beer?

With the Tegernseer Wirtshaus & Biergarten Binz we combine Bavarian cosiness with the Nordic charm of Rügen and offer an authentic experience.

In addition to our beer specialties, the focus is on classic tavern delicacies such as roast pork, snack platters, obazda and homemade apple strudel - this is how we bring the Bavarian lifestyle to the Baltic Sea.

The new Binz wine shop is really about good wine.

At the core, however, are both locations for sociable get-togethers and the perfect meeting place with friends.

Were you allowed to have a say in the setup?

How long did the conversion take?

Yes, we even recommended a carpenter's shop here.

We also got involved in the design - the Kurhaus Binz wanted the most authentic pub experience possible.

In the beer garden, for example, there are wooden furniture from a workshop for the disabled in Gaißach and wooden barrel high tables from the Schmid barrel factory in Munich.

The service staff wear traditional costumes from the Rottacher Hutmacherei Martin Wieser.

The renovation started at the beginning of April 2021 and the soft opening took place on June 11th.

How many seats does the inn have inside and outside?

Inside 85, outside 130.

Is there any feedback from the guests?

The inn is a valuable addition to the hotel business.

The managing director was pleasantly surprised at how well the offer in the newly designed restaurant, especially our beer, was being accepted.

The guests love our classic Tegernseer-Hell and confirm this with long and repeated visits.

What more do you want?

Have you already been there yourself?

I myself was a guest at the planning stage and in the finished tavern and I have to say that I am more than surprised - although at first it was difficult for me to combine the northern German mentality with the Bavarian cosiness.

A visit is always worthwhile, beer connects, and in Binz you just don't look at the Tegernsee, but at the sea.
