The Freising Animal Welfare Association can look forward to a considerable inheritance.

The money, around 350,000 euros, is earmarked.

Freising

- The Freising Animal Welfare Association has good news: With a considerable legacy, it may be possible to expand the animal shelter in a few years as it was basically planned.

Otherwise, the association is in a good position - however, only 25 of around 600 members came to the general meeting on Friday.

For chairman Joseph Popp, this was not just due to the summer vacation.

25 people present, that is not exactly a lot.

Experience has shown that 40 to 50 members come to such events, as Popp said.

In these times, however, the small number is understandable.

Most of the voters were active members of the association, passive ones were hard to find.

But for Popp there is no perfect day for such gatherings anyway, this time it was also summer vacation and therefore vacation time.

The chairman receives a new deputy

But testing would probably have deterred some as well.

Because of the currently applicable 3G regulation, the Hofbrauhauskeller in Freising was only allowed to vaccinated persons, genesis or people with an officially certified negative test result.

This was already checked in the entrance area by the service staff.

There were new elections coming up for the animal welfare association, which were settled relatively quickly.

After more than 13 years on the board, Joseph Popp was re-elected as chairman.

Animal shelter manager Nicole Gruber could not be set up any more, as the new deputy Hildegard Wilder will help steer the fate of the association.

Manuela Möschner will continue to keep an eye on the finances, and Michael Alt was again confirmed as secretary.

The number of animals being looked after is increasing significantly

"We did a good job," said Popp in retrospect for 2020. For him, this was mainly due to the high level of commitment of his employees, who put their heart and soul into keeping the animal shelter running.

Especially when it comes to the dogs, and especially with the conspicuous four-legged friends, Nicole Gruber would do an excellent job.

The annual statistics of the animals looked after show that the work is increasing: 50 dogs, 157 cats, 17 turtles, over 100 small animals - and one goat.

According to Popp, the association was “badly caught” because of the lack of donations through various events, but the 13 feed boxes are still important to support animal rights activists.

Because one thing is also clear: More and more animals are being given up.

There are many reasons for this - from moving to hospital stays and deaths.

For example, the original owner of the dog, who is currently in Popps' care, is currently in prison.

Inheritance is not quite enough to expand the animal shelter

But there was also very good news, because the Freising Animal Welfare Association has inherited - and not just a little. Around 350,000 euros were given to the association for the purpose of building the animal shelter, and the Munich Animal Welfare Association received a similar amount. The money is still not quite enough for the construction work, but Popp is in good spirits. With an additional 120,000 euros in equity plus 50,000 euros in funding, further construction measures, such as quarantine areas, could soon begin.

Fundamentally, the association is in a good financial position: last year there were donations amounting to 172,370 euros, the income from sales amounted to around 158,000 euros.

The association's assets, including land, buildings and assets, amount to 1.85 million euros.

The expenses for 2020 were put at 235 366 euros.

Visits to the animal shelter are only possible by appointment

While the possible construction project will be more of a long-term matter, something will also change in the short term in the animal shelter: There will no longer be any opening times.

These were canceled during the pandemic, but according to Popp they want to keep this now.

The animals can be selected on the homepage and then met by appointment.

Because the animal shelter is anything but an animal park, emphasized the chairman.

"Let's just hope that the next two years will be as we imagine," Popp said in conclusion.

If not, according to the chairman, “we just have to help out”.
