For five continuous hours, 22 teams competed today in the programming competition of the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in Damascus, with the results of which the winning teams in the first six places will qualify for the national programming competition for the year 2021.

The competition is one of the distinguished scientific university activities, according to Dr. Maher Suleiman, the director of the institute, to SANA, because it helps students develop their programming skills and contributes to developing their mental abilities such as logical reasoning, working within a team dominated by competition and innovation, enhancing communication skills and developing the student’s personality scientifically and socially.

Suleiman pointed out to the institute's keenness to organize the competition annually due to the high demand from students for it and their enthusiasm to participate in it.

Dr. Roa Wannous, Director of the Programming Competition at the Institute, pointed out the role of the competition in enhancing students’ technical and mathematical abilities, as each team consists of three students who exchange skills and knowledge in a competitive competition in which the team that solves the largest number of problems in the least possible time wins.

And from Syriatel, the sponsor of the competition, between Yazan Abu Hamdan, the media coordinator, that the company's sponsorship of the competition stems from its social responsibility towards supporting young people and enhancing their capabilities by acquiring the skills and experience necessary to supply the labor market.

The students Bader Al-Jabai, Nour Saqr and Samir Ajam pointed out that the competition contributes to gaining experience and quick-wittedness in solving programming problems in new ways, while Bilsan Dawood, Raneem Asfoura, Miqdad Saqur and Karam Mahmoud noted the atmosphere of the scientific competition provided by the competition among students away from traditional methods and its role in qualifying them to enter labor market and achieve their future ambitions.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian teams have achieved outstanding successes in the Arab and international competitions over the past years.
