The Association of Argentine Journalistic Entities (ADEPA) reminded political parties this Wednesday that, since 2019, they must allocate

"a relevant percentage"

of their campaigns to be advertised in digital media, both "of national and local production."

Through a statement, ADEPA places this request "in a world context where

misinformation and false news

increase during electoral periods."

The obligation was highlighted in various meetings called by the National Electoral Chamber, both with the representatives of the political parties that will compete in the PASO and the general elections, as well as with the media and journalists from all over the country who will cover the electoral process.

In fact, the Chamber recalled that, as it did in 2019, the parties must

prove compliance with this obligation when rendering their account of campaign expenses,

in both electoral instances.

In the framework of the last presidential elections, Law 27,504 incorporated into the Law of Financing of Political Parties - Law 26,215 - a set of rules specifically applicable to the field of electoral advertising communication on the Internet.

In this chapter, article 43 contains a specific provision in which it contemplates the destination that political parties must assign to investment in

digital advertising

.

The norm establishes that “of the total public resources allocated to investment in digital advertising, at least thirty-five percent (35%) must be allocated to

digital news sites that generate content

and national production, and at least another twenty-five percent (25%) to digital journalistic sites that generate content and provincial production, following a criterion similar to that of federal co-participation ”.

"This new norm was implemented for the first time in the 2019 national elections, both in the primaries and in the general elections. And as established by the National Electoral Chamber itself, political parties are obliged to

report on the details of the investment. carried out in digital media,

complying with the indicated percentages, "the statement added.

The issue was raised by ADEPA executives weeks ago, at a meeting of the National Electoral Chamber together with the Advisory Council of Political Parties, and by the President of the Association, Martín Etchevers, during a training held last Friday with journalists from all over the country .
