Despite everything: four good things about "The Next Star" | Israel today

2021-09-01T09:21:28.437Z

Or should we say four? • Eran Suissa admits that the last season of reality did not really catch him, but he is already waiting for the day after • Opinion

The absence of female voices on radio stations is an issue that has been wearily worn out, and although we have been talking about the blatant imbalance for decades (yes, decades), it is an issue that has not yet been resolved.

Fact - again came the summaries of the year, again the vast majority of this year's songs are of men, again only two women managed to screw up in the top 10, again if there were no dedicated categories of "Singer of the Year", we would hardly hear at all about women in the charts.

Festive summaries?

Well, for a significant portion of the population in 2021 - less.

Every year, you can count on the "next star" to bring in fresh, sometimes even interesting, voices to playlists.

It's no secret that the surest way to reach the ears and consciousness today is through reality, and "The Next Star" is the musical reality that has brought the most new names to consciousness, from Neta Barzilai, through Margie to Ella Lee.

Precisely this year, I admit, the season of "The Star" did not catch me.

The judges' excessive excess tired me out and the return of the misses to the screen did not make me laugh.

Something still kept me going the times I watched the show, and believe it or not - it's not plot twists, not the moderators' joke, not even a tenth guest judge on the panel, but the contestants themselves, or rather - the wonderful singers who participated in the season, led by Valerie Hamati, Shai Hambar, Doreen Hirbi and Anel Moshe.

Shai Hambar at "School of Music" at the age of 13, Maya Baumel Birger

The bar, which we knew at "School of Music," has grown to be a mature and profound creative singer, and her captivating original songs speak for themselves.

My rare butter has all the potential to be the Israeli Adele.

Doreen is a perfect pop star, from the genre that dominates abroad but in Israel fails to stand out, and it's totally time.

Vanel - a little girl with a huge voice, and with the right choices she will go far.

It should be emphasized that the road to the playlists on the radio is still long and tedious and they do not always succeed in penetrating them, no matter how many people try, ask Jacko Eisenberg.

But if it was up to me, I would send the four of them to work tomorrow at eight in the morning.

In the "Next Star" final tonight (21:30, Keshet 12) will also appear Tamir Greenberg and Matan Levy, two excellent singers who are totally worthy of status, but I admit that in my dreams I fantasized about a first final of its kind of four diverse and talented women.

Because if after 20 years of trying we have failed to save the radio broadcasts from the horrific discrimination, at least we will balance with affirmative action on television.

As you know, my fantasy did not come true and will remain a dream.

I will continue to hope that at least one of the two wins, and I can not wait for the first singles of all the amazing singers revealed this season.
