District - A success for the Ostallgäu eco-model region: The “Bergmangalpe” Ruderatshofen is now allowed to use the German organic seal on its menu.

The inn is certified according to EU legislation for organic farming and is now officially allowed to use the German organic seal on the menu.

According to the district office, the Ostallgäu eco-model region assisted the company with the certification.

“Organic is a matter of course for us,” explain the hosts Katha and Hans Jäger.

"We both value high-quality food, preferably organic, preferably from the region."

In April 2019 they took over the "Bergmangalpe" on the ridge between Apfeltrang and Ruderatshofen.

The corona protective measures presented the restaurateurs with difficult economic conditions.

It was all the more important for both of them to position themselves clearly from the start.

"We want to show that organic also works in the catering trade," says Hans Jäger.

Products from the region

Katha Jäger, who grew up on an organic farm at the foot of the mountain range, knows about the special quality of the products.

There are organic Landjäger from the farm that has since been taken over by the brother, organic cheese from regional alpine dairies, organic wood-fired bread, organic vegetables and salad, organic oils and homemade cakes with organic eggs and organic spelled flour.

"You are what you eat.

That is our conviction, ”explains Katha Jäger.

But for them it is not about organic at any price.

You won't find an avocado from South America in your kitchen, but coffee from a roastery in neighboring Aitrang.

Second eco-certified catering business in the district

Regional is at least as important for both of them.

They know their suppliers and the companies.

The map of the Bergmangalpe is designed according to the season and availability.

“Our guests know that and are happy when we keep coming up with other special dishes,” laughs Katha Jäger.

“In addition to our pioneer and flagship hotel in Ostallgäu, the Bio-Hotel Eggensberger in Hopfen, the Bergmangalpe is the second eco-certified restaurant.

And I'm sure that many more will follow these examples, ”says Florian Timmermann, project manager of the Ostallgäu eco-model region.

The organic certification is "a mark of quality and gives guests and restaurateurs security and a good feeling."
