The flood on Monday the water hit the Am Seebach settlement in Oberdorfen hard.

Within a few minutes everything was under water.

Oberdorfen

- flood in Oberdorfen: Within a quarter of an hour on Monday morning the water in the streets rose to half a meter, the Am Seebach settlement was completely flooded.

250 people had to be evacuated, 30 cellars have flooded, and some of the water reached the ground floor.

District administrator Martin Bayerstorfer, Dorfens mayor Heinz Grundner and district fire inspector Richard Obermaier, who led the operation, spoke to the victims of the flood the next day.

Flood in the district of Erding: Settlement in Oberdorfen evacuated

"We are healthy, that is the most important thing," says Brigitte Fellermayer.

Only now during the day do she see all the chaos that the floods have created.

She looks depressed at the mess in front of her house.

Simone Yelderin helps her clean up.

Outside there is food in soaked cardboard boxes, but also books and photos that were stored in the cellar.

“What a mess,” Yelderin repeats.

Fear and shock, but also bewilderment, are reflected on the faces of the residents.

“I am glad that there were no injuries or even deaths,” said Bayerstorfer, who declared a disaster for Dorfen on Monday and explained: “We wanted to make sure.

We had to assume the worst scenario. "

After flooding in Upper Bavaria: "The amount of heavy rain cannot be controlled"

Both Bayerstorfer and Mayor Grundner are affected. They have often experienced flood situations. They are reminiscent of the floods in 2013. At that time, there was land under in Dorfen's city center for days. But never before has the water risen so rapidly as on Monday. "Heavy rain in the amount and the speed are not manageable," explains Grundner, who had his first working day after vacation on Monday. "Not a good start - but it doesn't help," he said. In the area of flood protection, improvements now have to be made.

After the heavy rain of the past few days, it rained all night from Sunday to Monday, more than 50 liters per square meter were measured in the Erding district.

But this time it was not the Isen that caused many floods in Dorfen that became dangerous for the people of Oberdorf, but the Seebach.

A small, inconspicuous ditch that drains the agricultural area between Oberdorf and Landersdorf.

The flood wave built up on this area.

Evacuation after flooding in Oberdorfen: residents surprised by the flood

The people from the settlement were surprised by the flood, the water shot up to half a meter, shot through the streets and ran into the houses - it carried away what it could hold.

Operations manager Obermaier reported about a young woman with a baby in her arms, who was completely disturbed and stood in the rain in a panic.

The district fire inspector was happy, however, that the district administrator had declared the disaster so quickly: "This enabled the residents to be evacuated quickly." I would be fatally electrocuted, the expert explained.

Emergency shelter in the gym: evacuees find shelter with friends and relatives

It was not the first use of the day for the fire brigades in the district.

As reported, the A 94 between Lengdorf and Dorfen was closed for hours.

There, the continuous rain in the early morning had caused the earth to slide from the slope onto the roadway, which was covered with mud and rubble.

“Then came the next location, here in the Seefeld settlement,” says Obermaier.

(By the way: All developments and results for the upcoming federal election from your region as well as all other important stories from the Erding region are now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.)

Camp beds were set up in the gym in Oberdorf on Monday afternoon, but all evacuees were accommodated with relatives or friends.

Well, the next morning, of course, those affected want to know how the flood came about.

"We will analyze the situation in detail," promise the politicians.

Franz Wunschik and Jochen Kirschbaum ask about the measures that are being taken to prevent another catastrophe.

“There will be heavy rain again.

What then? ”Asks resident Gerhard Zelder.

And his daughter Luisa believes: "That is also due to climate change."

"Solutions are being sought," say the district administrator and mayor to the residents of the settlement.

The city also learned from the floods in 2013: additional tractor pumps and a drone were purchased.

The pumps were in use until the early hours of the morning.

Because the situation at the rainwater retention basin was initially critical.

Since only light rain fell during the night, the situation here is now relaxed.

District Administrator Bayerstorfer: "The total damage will run into the millions"

But now it's time to clean up the Seebach first.

Containers have meanwhile been delivered.

Klaus Steiner, the head of Stadtwerke Dorfen, was also there.

The houses in the estate will be supplied with electricity again as soon as possible, although this will first come from outside, he promises.

Developer Decker and architect Veronica Weltrich-Zimmermann also offered help, they want to give the residents an initial assessment of the security of the houses, albeit not an expert opinion.

"We would now like to go back into the house and continue working", explains a woman on behalf of all victims of the flood in the settlement.

How high the damage will be cannot yet be foreseen.

"The thermal baths in Erding are also affected by the flood - the total damage will run into the millions," estimates District Administrator Bayerstorfer.
