Gunmen kidnapped about 100 students and teachers from a government secondary school in Zamfara state, northwest Nigeria.
The Nigerian Tribune Online website stated that gunmen opened fire at random as they entered the school and kidnapped more than 100 students and dozens of teachers.
It is noteworthy that hundreds of students have been kidnapped in different Nigerian states since December last year. Most of them were released after negotiations with local officials, although some of them are still being held.
Armed criminal gangs often attack villages to loot, steal cattle and kidnap people for ransom in northwest and central Nigeria, but since the start of the year schools and colleges have increasingly targeted schools and colleges.
