The government announced earlier that it would subsidize non-governmental organizations to rent hotels or guesthouses as transitional housing. Among them, Lok Sintang in Kowloon launched the first hotel transitional housing project "Le House", which changed the To Kwa Wan B Hotel into a transitional housing.

Le Shan Tang said that "Le House" has been put into service today (1st), and tenants are gradually taking keys to move in. Among them, 60-year-old residents and their wives are living in a 75-sq. ft. sub-divided room and will move into the hotel this month. It is described that the area of "Le House" is nearly double the size of the existing sub-districts, and the rent is more than 30% cheaper.

Le Shan Tang has arranged for tenants to pick up keys and move in one after another this morning, and Mr. Chen Fan, Secretary of the Transport and Housing Bureau, visited one of the hotel beneficiaries, Mr. Tang.

Le Shantang said that 60-year-old Mr. Tang and his wife lived in a sub-districted room in Dajiaozui. The area was only 75 feet. There was only a one-foot-long passage in the unit. There were cooking places, toilets and bathrooms on the left and right sides.

Because the windows are facing the patio, Mr. Tang often closes the windows tightly. "The sub-rooms are very humid, the air is poor, and the towels are often moldy. They have to be replaced almost every month." The two have been waiting for public housing for nearly 5 years. Including rent and water and electricity costs, monthly housing expenses exceed 6,000 yuan.

"Le House" has a shared space and kitchen.

Shared kitchen

Leshantang said that as the hotel rooms cannot be used for cooking, part of the hotel space will be allocated as a shared kitchen and activity room. Residents can cook and have activities, and the meal center will provide meals at 25 yuan per meal.

Refitting has been available for occupation for three months

Liu Aishi, Director-General of Leshantang, said that this project is the first pilot project, and that it is the quickest way to convert a hotel into a social housing. Residents can be admitted within 3 months.

She also pointed out that the hotel has 161 rooms, but the project has received overwhelming response. After its launch, more than 400 applications have been received. Among them, the main ones are working people and two-person families who have been waiting for public housing for at least 3 years or more.

The government intends to allocate more than 900 million yuan to subsidize 8 transitional housing projects to provide a total of 1,726 units. More than 30% of the grass-roots families surveyed have no intention to apply for transitional housing. A total of 531 rooms are being followed up for other applications to build a transitional housing of about 180,000 square feet next to the MTR station on Kam Sheung Road, Yuen Long, with 1020 units of five-person units
