The authorities of the county of Forsyth, in Carolina of the North, have informed that there has been a shooting in the secondary school of Mount Tabor, located in the city of Winston-Salem, without yet knowing the scope nor the number of victims.
Police have secured the premises and claim they are doing "everything possible" to keep the students safe.
"We are actively investigating what happened and will share the confirmed information as appropriate," the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office published in a statement.
Authorities have warned that anyone who shows up on campus will be redirected to the neighboring Harris Teeter parking lot while the investigation continues.
Agents have confirmed that
at least one person was shot on school property
, located at 342 Petree Road.
According to authorities, the wake-up call came from the school resource officer shortly after 12 p.m.
It is unclear if the attacker is in custody or still at large.
All high school students are being brought to the Robinhood Road YMCA to meet with their parents or guardians.
