Praised by young people, hairdressing will be able to accommodate more apprentices

The end of the quota of apprentices in hairdressing salons should increase the dynamism of the sector.

Although hairdressing salons have not recovered to their pre-health crisis attendance levels, the sector remains under stress.

To promote the integration of young recruits into the profession, the government has just repealed a provision which has "relaxed" hairdressers for a long time.

A 1992 decree established quotas for apprentices specific to the profession.

Thus, a salon with up to three qualified hairdressers could not accommodate more than one apprentice. From now on, it will be possible for any establishment employing two experienced hairdressers to hire four apprentices, ie two per apprentice master. With this change in legislation, hairdressers fully intend to take advantage of the last months of the deployment of learning aids, born of the crisis, and which for the time being remain in force until December 31. “

The colleagues want to train young people, who for their part show a real passion for hairdressing. The fact that the salons were able to remain open during the third confinement gave a very positive image of the profession,

”points out Christophe Doré, president of the National Union of Hairdressing Companies (Unec).

More and more apprentice in the craft industry

Already, during the 2019-2020 school year, when 150,000 apprentices were trained in crafts (+ 3% compared to 2018-2019), the CAP and BP hairdressing were among the five most chosen diplomas, according to the ISM-MAAF barometer.

The CAP pastry chef, baker and mason were among the other popular training courses.

In total, craft enterprises employ and train 32% of total apprentices.
