The Stadtkapelle has been invited to a special Munich online festival.

It takes place to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the twinning between Munich and Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe.

The concert was recorded in July at the Unterfahrt jazz club in Munich.

You can see and hear it at the weekend.

Germering - Wind orchestras don't have it easy in Corona times either. Performances are rare, the rehearsal situation difficult. Like many others, the town band can sing a song about it. The musicians were all the more pleased that their application to participate in the festival in Munich was successful. The Munich Harare Arts Gathering (Muhag) lasts from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th September. A total of 17 music groups, nine from Harare and eight from Munich, offer a total of 17 hours of music. The spectrum ranges from jazz to rock and pop to classical music. And brass music - that's what the town band takes care of.

Robert Baumgartner, vice chairman and trumpeter, explains why the city band is allowed to be part of the spectacle.

The mother of a musician works in the Munich city administration.

So it was learned that the state capital is still looking for a symphonic wind orchestra for the anniversary festival.

Because the cosmopolitan city itself doesn't have one, people looked around the region.

The city band applied and was lucky.

“We were immediately enthusiastic about the idea,” reports Arno Euteneuer, chairman of the city band.

"The performance for the festival with its great variety of music styles, the international flair and this special cosmopolitanism, fits perfectly with what we as the city band have always associated with our music."

She was also attracted by the special online format, adds Euteneuer, addressing another special feature of the festival. Due to the uncertain corona situation, the organizers planned it as a streaming festival from the start.

The individual concerts of the music groups in Munich Unterfahrt and Harare were recorded as early as July. Robert Baumgartner reports on a great experience. It took around five hours to record. The organizers provided the highly professional technology with a sound engineer and cameraman. The concert was played like a live event - and it actually had a small audience. There were four listeners from Zimbabwe in the jazz club: "They went with us enthusiastically," explains Baumgartner. The entire festival is now broadcast from Friday to Sunday via the usual social media channels on the Internet. The town band can be seen and heard on Saturday at 5 p.m. In addition, some Munich venues offer public viewing with a supporting program.Details can be found on the official website of the organizers, https://muhag.org/.
