The ejection seat that saved a pilot's life before.

The pastor's service car on Fursty: These and other exhibits related to the Air Force can be seen on Saturday, September 4th, at Jexhof.

Schöngeising - Mike Weber from the Traditionsgemeinschaft (TG) Fursty Fliegerhorst and Hans Eberhard from the reservists work group on historic Bundeswehr vehicles tell us what the exhibition is all about.

Where do the exhibits come from?

Weber: We got most of it from bequests given to us by relatives of deceased soldiers.

Some comrades leave their memorabilia to us at the end of their term of office.

We can also save a few things with the dissolution or the downsizing of departments.

Occasionally we also buy something or happen to find something at the recycling center.

Which Bundeswehr vehicles do you have in your inventory and where else can they be viewed?

Eberhard: We have very different vehicles - from the airport fire engine to a VW Passat to the mobile tower.

We are exhibiting a small selection of vehicles related to the Air Force at Jexhof.

Some were actually used in the air base, for example the AUDI 100, the official vehicle of the Catholic parish priest.

We are often present at classic car events or the “Bundeswehr Day” - a rolling museum.

How is the cooperation between you?

Eberhard: The reservist community itself does not have any historical Bundeswehr wheeled vehicles in the museum's collection.

That is why we support the TG.

Weber: For example, by presenting the vehicle configuration of an air base from the early days of the Bundeswehr.

We at TG see the Rolling Museum as a perfect addition to our collection.

Is there also a story about individual exhibits?

Weber: Yes, and of course we also tell them.

For example, the Martin Baker ejection seat on display, which Walter Meingast used to save himself in 1971 when his Fiat G-91 collided with another aircraft.

Eberhard: The respective use is documented for all historical vehicles, even the Y-plates are still preserved.

Why is the exhibition not taking place at the air base but at the farm museum?

Eberhard: The former Fürstenfeldbruck air base is still an active barracks and thus a military security area.

Realizing access for larger groups of people as part of a museum day is unrealistic.

And the Jexhof offers the perfect ambience for visiting families.

What happens when the air base is completely cleared?

Weber: Our aim is for the district and the municipalities to take on their responsibility to preserve history, because the air base has had an extraordinary impact on the region. That is why we have proposed the creation of a documentation center several times, which reproduces contemporary history - as an inseparable part of the memorials “Memorial to the Victims of Aviation” and “Memorial Olympia Assassination 1972”. We would like the citizens to support our idea of a publicly sponsored documentation center. We as a TG can definitely not do this on our own. Because who knows how long we will still exist as TG Fursty. If the air force has withdrawn, the military security area no longer exists,if the current building in our collection is owned by any investor, the base planes have been scrapped.

The exhibition

will take place on September 4th at Jexhof.

It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
