This is the story of Juana, a mother with a broken heart. Her world changed on May 23, 2018. That day she was separated from her four daughters in an immigration detention center in El Paso, Texas. Juana had turned herself in to the Border Patrol. He came to the United States seeking asylum. She says that she had been attacked and threatened in Honduras. They had never been apart. It is the drama of family separation told closely, to try to understand its magnitude and its scars. Juana's story is brutally moving and takes us back to that moment of goodbye. Juana and her daughters agreed to tell us their story. For security reasons we do not reveal the exact location where they live, nor their faces. In the case of daughters, we will also use pseudonyms to identify them and protect their identity, because their asylum petition cases in the United States have not yet been approved. One of them declined to appear in front of the cameras, after our first interview.
