"Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law" is imperative but must be acted carefully

A few days ago, the NPC Standing Committee meeting closed in Beijing, and the chairmen’s meeting decided not to vote on the draft decision on the inclusion of the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law in Annex III of the Basic Law for the time being.

After the news came out, many voices said that the implementation of the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law in Hong Kong is inevitable. The problem lies in the details, especially how to ensure that the mechanism between dry ports and Hong Kong can smoothly handle counter-sanctions and how to balance the interests of all sectors. And worries, etc.

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Yau Tenghua, said earlier that foreign countries imposing sanctions on Hong Kong are unreasonable, and that they are suspected of violating WTO regulations. The authorities will inevitably raise objections, and the enactment of the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law by the country is also justified.

However, the authorities also need to take into account the reactions and doubts of the business community and foreign investment.

In the turbulent international situation, Hong Kong must pay attention to safeguarding national interests.
