The Minister of Religious Affairs, Matan Kahana, has been examining in recent days the possibility of appointing Rabbi Eitan Shenrav as the Ashkenazi rabbi of the city of Lod.
The appointment is being examined by the minister in light of the recent campaign against the Torah nuclei in the city, which culminated in incorrect publicity about the Shenrav family, whose daughter Rene was killed at the age of 17 in a terrorist attack during a trip to a Danish spring in the Binyamin area.

He sent a letter to the mayor yesterday, Yair Revivo, in which he announced his intention to establish an election committee for the election of a mayor in Lod, and also announced that he intends to appoint Judge Sarah Frisch as chairman of the election committee. Seriously, in which he wrote: "If you do not want him as a resident, they will accept him as rabbi of the city."

In recent days, a campaign has begun on social media against the Torah nuclei, led by the Lod nucleus. Campaign leaders claimed, among other things, that they were causing tension in the cities involved, which erupted in the severe violence that erupted during Operation Wall Guard, and that they were receiving huge budgets from the state and public housing without any restrictions. On one occasion, in a Twitter account allocated specifically for the benefit of the struggle, anonymous campaign leaders claimed that Rabbi Shenrav had invaded the area of a public school in the city and set up warehouses for the same purpose for personal use. The publicity gained resonance on social media and the rabbi was severely criticized in his wake - but it turned out to be incorrect, and these are warehouses allocated for the benefit of an association that distributes second-hand clothes to the needy.
Following this, Minister Kahana decided to promote the appointment of Rabbi Shenrav to the position of rabbi of the city, although only recently a Sephardic rabbi was elected to the city of Lod, after a long saga of many months.
The minister's office confirmed the details, and sources close to him added that "Rabbi Shenrav is a wise student and a man of many deeds who should not serve as rabbi of the city of Lod," and noted that "the issue is now being examined by the relevant authorities."
