(Scientific research and technological development for textile industries) in a workshop at Al-Assad Library in Damascus

The Supreme Commission for Scientific Research, in cooperation with the General Organization for Textile Industries, held today a workshop entitled “National Priorities for Scientific Research and Technological Development for the Textile Industries Sector” at Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.

The workshop included a lecture on "Developmental Scientific Research", a presentation of completed research projects by researchers from several public bodies, and a report on the national priorities for scientific research and technological development for the textile industries sector.

Minister of Industry Ziad Sabbagh pointed out, in a speech during the opening of the workshop, that the textile industries sector is a vital sector to be relied upon in the coming stage by increasing investment rates, competitiveness and growth, and this requires maximum benefit from the development of technologies and scientific research outputs to make a qualitative leap in the clothing industry and increase exports.

And the Deputy Minister of Industry, Jamal al-Omar, said in a statement to SANA that despite the circumstances that Syria is exposed to due to unilateral coercive economic measures, it has cadres working with all its energies to present ideas and scientific research that are applicable, pointing out that there has been cooperation with the Scientific Research Authority since 2017.

Dr. Majd Al-Jamali, Director of the Supreme Commission for Scientific Research, explained that the aim of the workshop was to identify research priorities that could contribute to the development of the textile industries sector and to see some projects that are being conducted in universities and research centers to come up with research projects that could be financed by the authority or the Ministry of Industry.

During his lecture, Dr. Basil Younes, a professor at Damascus University, presented his report on “National Priorities for Scientific Research and Technical Development for the Textile Industries Sector” and described the reality of the national policy for the textile industries in Syria and its operational matrix.

Director of the General Organization for Textile Industries, Engineer Harith Makhlouf, stated that the workshop is a culmination of the institution's vision in developing the technical and productive reality of this industry, localizing the production requirements industry and developing production lines based on local expertise.

Engineer Ghinwa Rasoul, Director of Planning at the General Organization for Textile Industries, pointed out that the institution directed the necessity of establishing industrial complexes to be an alternative to the stalled companies, to replace imports with alternatives, to pay attention to alternative energies, and to study the institution's need for scientific research projects.

Industrialist Maher Al-Azat stressed the necessity of partnership between the public and private sectors to reach the desired goal by supporting and developing the Syrian industry and protecting both the industrialist and the final consumer.

Dr. Taher Rajab Qadar, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for Textile Industries and Technologies, presented a number of applicable researches, including “Design and implementation of a fabric processing device, electronic programs for designing and implementing images on fabrics, a design for a hardness testing device for fabrics, and a study to modify the work system of the Giger dyeing machine in a public sector company from the system Hydraulic system to the programmed system and study the possibility of producing electrically spun nanofibers and a device to monitor the weft threads on the carpet loom.

The workshop was attended by a number of directors of public and private companies, heads of federations, members of chambers of industry and commerce, and a number of researchers and industrialists.
