Spain reached this Wednesday the goal of 70% of the population fully vaccinated against covid-19.

In total, 33,376,693 people, equivalent to 70.3% of the total population, completed their vaccination against the coronavirus until Tuesday, August 31, as reflected in the vaccination report shared this Wednesday by the Ministry of Health.

"It is a collective success, a success for all," said Health Minister Carolina Darias at a press conference on Wednesday.

This objective, long pursued and publicized by the Spanish Government since April, places the country in fourth place in the European Union to achieve it after Malta, Portugal and Denmark.

In addition, according to the Ministry of Health, comparing Spain with the nations that make up the G20, it would be the first country in this important group to achieve this goal.

"We did not reach the final goal, but, obviously, we reached a very important flying goal that gives a very wide coverage," said Darias this Wednesday, giving details of the vaccination campaign.

A few words that highlight the intention of the health authorities to increase, even more, the number of immunized throughout the territory in order to better control the advance of the pandemic.

Among others, it is intended to stop the current variants and prevent the spread of others in the future.

Vaccination against the coronavirus began in Spain on December 27, 2020. Since then, the country has received more than 74 million doses of the vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen.

Of this amount, more than 66 million doses have already been administered to the population and have allowed 36,533,328 people, equivalent to 77% of the total population, to have received at least one dose of the vaccine until this Wednesday.
